Hollywood director Lexi Alexander largely criticizes the MPAA and its war on piracy, saying that teenagers hacking Hollywood security features is much more entertaining than most of the blockbusters. Alexander said that sometimes piracy is necessary due to country content restrictions, and everyone should have the freedom of access to content.
While Hollywood spends thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours on security features like IP block, DRM and so on, some piracy kid can undo it for free within a couple of minutes, and this process will provide better entertainment for these kids than the very movie.
Lexi Alexander, a German living in the United States, faces difficulties in getting German news, and vice versa – while in Germany, it’s hard to get American shows. In these cases she resorts to piracy and doesn’t hide this fact. She says that when visiting the website of a German public TV channel, she sees a message saying that “copyright for this program doesn’t extend to the country of your current location”. The same happens when she tries to catch up with a US show in Germany.
Alexander also criticized Hollywood’s claims that piracy is causing massive losses. She pointed out that piracy has not been proven to hurt box-office numbers. On the contrary, some studies admit that file-sharing may have boosted the bottom line. What causes losses is tons of money spent on combating piracy – hundreds of millions of dollars. Although nobody will disclose these numbers, it is known that the entertainment industry spent $91 million lobbying for SOPA in one year alone. These is real money spent, and numbers speak for themselves, not the “potential loss” that most likely could have never happened.
Lexi Alexander is not endorsing piracy, because there are people out there like Mega’s founder Kim Dotcom, who lines his own pockets rather than playing Robin Hood. However, the Hollywood director wants to “at least reach out to the other side” and has demanded that one of The Pirate Bay founders, Peter Sunde, is freed from prison in Sweden.
Peter Sunde is known for being confined for his role in facilitating online piracy via the largest BitTorrent tracker in the world, The Pirate Bay, by a Stockholm district court in 2009 after two years on the run.

Its reassuring to hear from a Hollywood insider This common sense rational. Hope there are many others like her who will voice their opinions and keep piracy alive.
i have a rather extensive movie collection on bluray disc. i prefer to rip them to the pc & watch them using ps3 media server. By the time i've sat through all the copyright BS, forced advertising & movie trailers, i've lost the will to watch the movie... as for downloading movies, well i think its safe to say that a lot of people do it

If in this circumstance just use a proxy for the country you are downloading from simple.

A very reasoned argument but when the "entertainment industry" can afford to throw $91 million into the lobbying pot, her view is like King Canute trying to stop the incoming tide, it will make very little difference.
actually 91 million was just for SOPA not including the many more millions they have spent on the others or the fact Billions have been spent if you include Cyber, microsoft fusion centres and monies spent by the NSA`s partner countries all b/s in the name of catching potential terrorist plots (fat chance) or for catching pedophiles also never going to happen since those investigating and promoting the latter action have proved to be pedo`s themselves as was the case with Camerons adviser on internet filtering.
since streaming via project freetv and others is not deemed copyright infringement for those concerned this is probably the best way to proceed if you don`t mind buffering for 10 minutes so your program doesn`t hang or skip.
Greed is the lack of confidence of one's own ability to create. Hollywood is unwilling to evolve with the times and is trying to hold-on to whatever they have left by exploiting law and throw millions of dollars in a lobbying plot that will just not work!!. Good Luck Keeping Up Hollywood!.

sad but true
without piracy i can't watch my favorite channels [Europe] i say just from Europe not other continent. . .
beside the racism the piracy just unite the ppl with the pleasure to watch their favorite channel or movie
Piracy is a Shepherd.
Unfortunately, this Lexi Alexander is not really a big name in Hollywood and hasn't had a movie in over 4 years. Not to say she hasn't done anything worth watching. Green Street Hooligans and Punisher: War Zone are a couple titles, but those are a bit dated now. If it were some names like Speilberg, Cameron, Howard, Burton, Abrams, Romero, Scorsese, Lee, Stone, etc. all jumping on the same bandwagon then Hollywood would take note.
PIRACY is NOT nice to hear... why don't we just call it FILE SHARING instead?

Piracy or File Share all r same.. its always forever
|In all honesty,... "piracy" (quote on quote) doesnt hurt hollyhood as media press and mpaa rdaa claim either... I'll just say this without giving out too much,... I spend a decent amount of time on set at all the major film studios from wb, cbs, fox, and universal, and i'll admit I quote on quote pirate, while on set, connected to soundstage wifi gateways.... AND!!! It's a common,.. Ive witnessed crew members, fellow actors and even A.D's to 2nd A.D's do the same inbetween scene turn around, at lunch on crew tables. YES sure, the Napster effect did do some damage, but that was from the sudden flux of sales as it did pick up heat widespread use in few short months,. (Im part of the Napster gen, and yes will say aaaarrrrrgh!! been doin it since mIRC. Am i shamed of it??? no not really, as I still go out and spend the money on tickets and watch films, even if seen it before. Supporting the little guy (like myself, as since it's the not so mainstream reg actors that each penny counts!!) Not the mpaa and rdaa or other alphabet soup groups!!!. This post was overdue!! Go watch "Nina" when it releases later this year (even after downloading it!!. An extra couple pennies for me is welcomed... LOL.. not being sarcastic. ) And if Batman vs Superman isnt pushed another year, watch it twice on the big screen..... ---BEST WISHES Aaaarggghh!! HAHA||
