A few days ago, software giant Microsoft introduced its new operating system named Windows 10. Everyone was surprised why after Windows 8, the 9 version was skipped.
The number nine doesn’t involve any negative meaning, aside from 9 circles of Hell in Dante’s Divine Comedy, but this fact is unlikely to put consumers off buying the new OS. Previously, Microsoft claimed that its new software was so different from everything before that it was “unfair” to call it Windows 9.
Now there is another explanation for this name: Microsoft seems to be skipping Windows 9 and going straight to 10 because it fears a problem like the Y2K bug. According to one of the company developers, the early testing revealed that there are a lot of various third-party products that have the code in the form of Windows 9, which is referring to benchmark operating systems Windows 95 and Windows 98. The simplest way to avoid this was to skip the number 9 in the name of the new operating system. In short words, the problem was in a lump of short-sighted code short cut designed to differentiate between Windows 95 and 98. The latter appeared unable to understand the existence of a new Windows 9.
It may sound daft, but the developers admit that over 4,000 applications use this ancient piece of coding and there is nothing Microsoft can do with it. The problem is that Microsoft would make each of them think that the system they see is Windows 98 rather than Windows 9. But when the software fails to find the floppy drive or see a hard-drive bigger than a GB, they would pack a sad.
However, the industry observers admit that Microsoft has found an interesting way out of the problem. After all, the company may be not so excellent at software, but still good at marketing.

not so good at software???? I hate to say it but microsoft projected the computer into the home and gave it a great boost. We love to hate but often overlook the obvious.

That's the problem of using legacy software. I always keep my core apps at the latest version and don't keep any kind of legacy software (including games). Thanks for sharing this article.

So far to me it is basically just windows 8 with no start screen and instead having a remodeled start menu which is really just aesthetically different.. it is basically the windows 7 start menu reorganized and a few tiles added..other than that.. there's a redesigned alt+tab interface(windows switcher) and four window side by side(never really used side by side that often so not sure if this is new or not.) oh and of course they borrowed multi-desktop from linux lol
Re-branding the same old sh1te adding a few widgets as it suits and charging the end users large money to pay for an operating system they can use but never OWN (see the TOS agreement),no doubt it will be more transparent for the NSA and security services and without doubt will have backdoors and reverse browsing for the powers that be as well as Microsoft to exploit.
@1 check your facts the first home computers were Not windows and started around 1977 not 1995 i know this from personal experience so high praise for bill Gates snippet of source code in creating the window but Commodore,Mac,Atari and others were there beforehand.

Digital harvest with graft for get more juice for get more best images for user who use pc for buy in business on a digital era. It inevitable compare each of other even if named different.
(9+9=18, 1+8=9), (9+9+9=27, 2+7=9), (4x9=36, 3+6=9), (5x9=45, yes 4+5=9), 9's are a powerful number they never end. It's the only number that doesn't add up to another number, but itself, unless your looking at 666, then there's a problem. lol. 6+6+6=18 which equals, yes you got it, the never ending number 9. Wow, did you guys and girls get that. Thanks for the post, got me thinking about numbers. LOL! I remember when the government tried to break up Microsoft, for monopolizing, Gates didn't have to disolve, but had to make an $800 million, donation to charity. Windows, whatever the number is the ticket. 98 was good. lol!
Another theory is that Windows 9 updates would be Windows 9.1 and the patches would become Windows 9.1.1 So to avoids the 911 reference, they moved to Windows 10.
Microsoft felt that the Windows 9(nein) would send a negative message to its German consumer base.
@ 11, where did I state that it was the first??? Go back and read what I said, It projected it into the home. Microsoft did what the others failed to do, keep it going and advanced it.
Lol because win 8 and 8.1 was flop!
window XP is most used window because it can easily instal in work every computer and window 7 is batter then XP but need upgrade system and real problem with window 8 and 8.1 is its worst display and setting. even some time you need to find and download extra files that missing in installation and add into system files so you can run your software, games
Let's hope that windows 10 will not be a flop.

If Microsoft makes another phone OS and tries to pass it off to laptop/desktop users, I'm staying on Win7 yet again! Win8 is perfect for 14 year olds and not much else! (No offence to 14 year olds, but you get the point.)
|Even more odderer, is the release of Yosemite 10.10 couple that with Windows 10 and we have 101010 in binary which translates to 42 and as we all know, 42 is the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything.||
