A new research aiming to compare over 10,000,000 BitTorrent users’ download speeds revealed that those using uTorrent have got considerably better speeds than users of Vuze. The difference equals to 30% on some ISPs and is considered to be attributed to various designs.
For almost 5 years now Vuze and uTorrent have been the major BitTorrent applications. Leave alone China, this two clients together hold 3/4 of the market share which amounts to 100,000,000 users per month.
Marios Iliofotou, a researcher of University of California, co-operated with Telefonica Research representatives, tried to find out which of these two clients can achieve the highest download speeds by scrutinizing the speeds of over 10,000,000 BitTorrent downloaders last summer. The received results were compared in order to reveal some great differences between the 2 BitTorrent applications.
The research was based on the six hundred of most popular The Pirate Bay torrents. They were tracked for 1 month as a whole, while the final analysis was built upon one week sample. The possibilities of any factors that could influence the results were reduced to zero, as there were the same number of Vuze and uTorrent users selected for each single torrent, that have also been matched by Internet Service Provider. This means that neither ISP nor the torrent type could be responsible for the spread.
The results showed a significant speed difference between the clients; exactly users of uTorrent have got 16% better download speeds than those of Vuze. If we go to the numbers, uTorrent users achieved a 176 Kbps on average speed, with Vuze users getting only 151 Kbps under otherwise equal conditions.
In order to reveal the details more analysis was required, which finally found out uTorrent users reaching higher downloads on the thirty most popular ISPs (excluding Verizon, having equal results for both). Moreover, the difference reached 30% in uTorrent favor on every one of ten ISPs.
The underlying reasons of such spread are named the distribution of upload capacity (more peers for uTorrent), and the way of connecting to ‘neighbors’ and discovering new peers.
In future the researchers are going to extend the field of research, involving other application to comparison and to determine what makes the best BitTorrent client.

hey! good read! Hail uTorrent! =D
i`ve only used UTorrent, It`s been the dogs B*****.Always!
ive always used vuze, and as long as there are seeds my average speed is between 400kbps and 600kbps. always. but im willing to try utorrent for 2 reasons. the 2 best torrent sites on the net will ban you if your caught using vuze, and this article. if this article is true, and utorrent will get me a little bit better speed than im getting then why not. ill give it a shot. i do love vuze though, but i love those sites more.

thx SaM NICE READ uTorrent 1.6 for me
i use utorrent 2.0. but i've seen that bitcomet gives an (faster)average of 210-220kBps if u create a free a/c in its site...

Hey, enlighten me on this: can a torrent client speed up your download speed? i mean, we only get 1/8 out of our connection speed. I have only 1mb dsl... and all i get is 128kbps (the highest), so if you have 2mb connection you'll get 256kbps d/l speed... and so on. Whether or not i'm using a torrent client or just downloading from the net, that's the speed i get -- 128 from 1mb dsl. Any suggestions?
well i tried it, but it is not as fast. nor can i do half the things i can do with vuze. its very plain. sure vuze uses java, but thats what allowes it to do the things other clients cant. i gave it a shot, but ill stick with vuze i will use utorrent for those 2 sites. it ironic that vuze is much faster on the sites that dont allow it. i will say vuze was alot better when they had the channels. they still have them, but there not as good any more. i dl some super rare stuff from those channels. cut throats nine, and funeral home for example. and if theres is something im supposed to select that would make utorrent faster please tell me, but at the moment with the same 2 torrents vuze is faster.
utorrent is successful all because of its tiny size and resilience... Vuze takes lots of time 2 start... cheers to utorrent makers...
I get the worst speeds with utorrent for some reason out of vuze utorrent and torrentbitch. Torrentbitch is the best download for me but i always use Vuze for uploading.
I love utorrent.
I knew there was a reason i DL'd Utorrent first and only use Utorrent

You need to tweak your Utorrent settings a little, and definately make sure you port forward , you need to go into your router settings , also for protection you should be running ip filter if using Utorrent ...Ip filter a must . And ts true 1.6 or 1.7 stable versions the best as after they had speed cap in place when they messed with newere versions...You will find ip filter here...you ned to drop it into C users Utorrent and make shortcut to desktop then update every now n then :) unsure google your best friend.Should be an example on forum some were i guess if not should be :)

bitcomet is the best cauz it uses lt seeds and gives a high speed than utorrent .tested
HUGE DRAWBACK I just noticed. With Vuze once the torrent is completed you just drag and drop on the PS3 or Xbox360 symbol, and your ready to watch the movie on your PS3. It's that simple. You cant do that with utorrent, bitcomet, or emule. I do have my ports forwarded, and Vuze is still faster for me. I'm not sure what has factored in to this test, but in my test Vuze is faster. I can understand if you dont have space for Vuze why you would want something smaller, if you don't own a PS3 or Xobox 360, but anyone else must be crazy. Or they have never tried it. I've just tried both and Vuze is way cooler. I just dont get it. Sorry
Thanx sam nice post superb u torrent

uuuhhhh, i guess im old school because i use BitLord to download. I use PeerBlock (Win7 version of PeerGuardian2) and i get download speeds of 1500-2000 kbps either combined or on a single download if the peers are there to do so. Also the great thing about BitLord is its very VERY light and fast to load (like zero load time) and it doesnt only P2P with other BitLord users. In one currently downloading torrent, im connected to peers from BitTornado, BitComet, LibTorent, Azureus, BitLord and various other torrent clients... it allows me to download REALLY quick. Its like using LimeWire (god forbid) and being able to download from every other peer on all other p2p clients (like bearshare and napster). It also has never crashed on me, and ive used it for about 5 years now.
i always use utorrent..
I have tested Vuse and Utorrent and Bitcomet,For several months,On 3 different computers,I even tried a few different settings,Because there are differnt ways,That different people say the settings should be for fastes speed.
And Utorrent came out faster ever time,The only reason i could see anyone ussing Vuse is for the x-box an PS3,And bitcomet i give to newbies because it has all the links to torrent sites,But overall Utorrent is faster,With no question.
So i guess it is wether you are willing to lose some of your downloading speed for some unneeded extras,I guess if i did not own a dvd player,And hade a Xbox,I might be willing to wait longer for my download..
