BitTorrent networks have revolutionized the experience of watching TV for lots of their users. Now they go further, welcoming an exclusive BitTorrent release named “Pioneer One”. That is a sci-fi series, planned to premiere on BitTorrent networks and get the most massive audience right away.
“In today’s North America, a government agency finds an object that has returned to Earth recently, appearing to be a lost space capsule from the Soviet Union, which is known to disappear many years ago. The most terrifying thing is found inside the capsule – something having the consequences for the entire world.”
That was the stage for “Pioneer One”, a sci-fi series, planned to debut on BitTorrent exclusively, and never go to the TV screens as the rest of the series do. The project was developed by Bracey Smith and Josh Bernhard, known as collaborates on the last year release called “The Lionshare” – that was the similar thing, a BitTorrent-exclusive movie, offered to the world in the beginning of 2010 on VODO network.
The colleagues work differently from the common filmmakers – they don’t take the traditional path of bringing a pilot to the studios. On the contrary, they are shooting the film just on their own, supported by public donations. The ready series will debut solely on BitTorrent networks, instantly getting an enormous audience.
The experience proved it will go as planned, with the earlier releases on VODO, which is a BitTorrent platform targeted at indie films, having got a great success and been downloaded by countless number of people. It has a support of many file-sharing partners like The Pirate Bay which are ready to help with promotion.
Josh Bernhard, the script author for “Pioneer One”, considers VODO a perfect distribution channel for the upcoming TV-series. He hopes it will exceed the success of their last film and the sponsors will get interested in it. He is actually right, the sponsors have to get interested – there’s nothing infringing in it, as there are no copyright holders, and the potential of such a unique show is really great. Hundreds of thousands people watching the series – that’s a perfect place to advertise, and almost for free, as the directors only need $6000 to produce a pilot!
The production of the series is well underway so far: the casting completed and shooting will start next week!
