Ross Ulbricht, 30, was convicted on all charges he had faced at Manhattan district court and is currently facing the prospect of spending the rest of his life in prison. A jury returned a guilty verdict at the end of a 1-month trial on the Silk Road site operation.
Ulbricht’s defense team tried to convince the jury that while he did launch the site under the alias Dread Pirate Roberts, the real operator of the online black market was Mark Karpelès, the founder of the infamous Bitcoin exchange MtGox.However, the prosecution revealed Ulbricht’s personal journals and his Bitcoin wallet containing millions of dollars, which proved his guilt.
The Silk Road operator was arrested in San Francisco more than a year agoafter the US law enforcement authorities shutdown the illegal online marketplace. It is known that the website could procure anything from LSD to ecstasy pills, and the users could leave reviews and give star ratings to the dealers.
It took the jury of 6 men and 6women about3 hours to deliberate. Asfor Ulbricht, he turned toward his supporters and raised his hand when he was led from the court.
He had conceded that he created Silk Road, but then handed it to other operators before being lured back. His lawyers had tried to claim that someone else had been operating Silk Road, such as Mark Karpelès. The latter, however, was never charged and has denied involvement. Now the site operator faces up to life in prison and a minimum term of 20 years. He will be sentenced in May, although he is going to appeal the decision

With the exception of murder for hire, for which there has been no victim's body introduced as evidence, everything on the silk road SHOULD be legal, I do not use drugs but if I choose to do so, it is none of any governments concern. Have they even produced a witness that received drugs from Ulbricht or one of the third parties advertising on Silk Road? Another issue: If I advertise in a newspaper or Craigslist using code words (often done for prostitution) and make an "illegal" transaction, is the newspaper or website responsible? What if I own a popular bar, some of my costumers may sell drugs or vagina to other customers, I make money from drinks and cover charge. Am I running a drug and prostitution ring? The issue here is not what was sold but if the owner of a business can be held responsable for the actions of his customers?
He was just a sacrificial lamb.
It's well-known by most truly thinking people that most of the Western governments themselves deal clandestinely (often openly) in drugs, human-trafficking, porn/child-porn, and yes indeed murder.
Sacrifice some Internet facilitator, wannabe gangster, to make people think that "The Authorities" are good, lawful, and just....
Whatever. Many of us KNOW BETTER.
@3 he made 13 million from site commissions from the sales of 200+ million in drugs,I don`t know what newspaper your advertising your whores in but the newspaper is not liable for trafficking in human flesh since you paid no commission for such services to them,he however blatantly received monies for knowingly allowing the sale of hard drugs and profited by the sale of such,we are not talking about a bit of pot but hard drugs heroin, cocaine, etc to the detriment and misery of others. It may be argued that tobacco and alcohol which are lawful are also responsible for misery amongst the populace but they are licensed commodities and lawful,@4 you are right to a greater degree most governments are profit oriented and do most every and anything to profit their nations economy including selling alcohol and cigarettes which cause hardship and misery albeit legalized revenue collecting in their case.

First time in our human history when the common man has a choice to be a King and these multi-generational Monarchs/tyrants/corporations are scrambling using every piece of propaganda possible to keep us from thinking and Living a Life of Personal freewill and freedom. This man Ulbricht and others like him (including you) are heroes. Yes,They are opportunists, but they (like piratebay and others) are forging a new future that is Giving the power back to the people. We need to back these people by action and not just our "opinions" educate yourselves, be active in local and national organizations and politics. Get these folks out of the jails and the "court" systems. What can we learn from the past? Why was it a federal law not to be able to grow tobacco? Cotton? Hemp? Because these organizations were lining the pockets of the governing bodies. Now weed is legal in a lot of states, now that it can be taxed. But what about the millions of people in jails rotting because of small drug offenses? Yet, the production of heroine has gone up 600 TIMES since the US has been in Afghanistan ( the opium cap of the world) Interesting wouldnt you say? The real silkroad was a Route that connected the common man directly to the producers of products. During that time exchange of ideas and lifestyles were rapid and Humanity grew exponentially 10 fold than the previous 100yrs. New religions, ways of life thoughts, technology all advanced. WE are in that same period, these Greedy Monkeys that act like they run the show are preventing another expansion of human thought, life etc Lets take these Shakles off and RISE!!!
I think they should let him go.

@shivababa: right on man! The US Government is the largest dealer of drugs in the history of the world. They don't like anyone competing with them. Especially some 30 year old know-nothing geek like this guy who will be locked up for the rest of his life. Since you're on this site you should see Kill The Messenger, which is a completely true story of how coke was brought in by the CIA and distributed by Freeway Rick Ross (the real one, not the idiot rapper) in the form of freebase (crack). The same thing was done in Mena, Arkansas and helped along at the time by the CIA's favorite Governor, Bill Clinton. See The Mena Connection on Youtube. It's almost the same story as the one told in Kill The Messenger, only centered in Arkansas instead of California.
"if your making money and not paying tax the governments don't like it" unless u live in
UK No.2, sorry, unless u make billions in UK & r called say, amazon/google/anyUSCo. off the

say i`m governed by these spineless, retarded, complete tw#ts!!! (they make me pay every
single penny of my tax, but i live here s`pose. lucky me)
What if I own a popular bar, some of my costumers may sell drugs or vagina to other customers, I make money from drinks and cover charge. Am I running a drug and prostitution ring? 1st off, i`ve never been offered "vagina" in my life, classic. I used to go on silk road `till they shut it, never bought anyting. rathtain if ur menu included coke/heroin/
crack etc. you`d expect to get done wouldn`t u? I know goverments import/export & sell drugs
every day, it`s called hypocrisy. Power rules, and they make the rules i`m sad to say
