Some troll used Twitter’s promoted tweets to target transgender people into their feeds and urge them to kill themselves, which caused outrage among Twitter users. The troll account claimed to belong to an Australian activist and feminist campaigner Caitlin Roper. The user behind the account posted abuse and graphic images and promoted a tweet using Twitter’s paid-for native advertising service to urge trans people to commit suicide.
This abusive promoted tweet appeared in the Twitter feed of many users. Of course, people who saw this message reacted with anger both at the content and the fact that Twitter had allowed to promote such message. The microblogging company took measures and suspended the account within hours after receiving multiple reports of abuse. The message was deleted from the service.
It turned out that Caitlin Roper, the activist whose account was impersonated, has been targeted for the same kind of behavior before: for instance, cloned accounts were created pretending to be her and making derogatory sexual comments. As a result, the woman was targeted by various “men’s rights groups” like “A Voice For Men”. In this case, it remains unknown who was behind the troll Twitter account.
It should also be noted that earlier in 2015, the social network announced a crackdown on abuse, revising and tightening rules on what can be permitted to post on Twitter. In particular, the company banned indirect threats of violence.
In addition, Twitter announced that it is going to implement a new filter designed to automatically block threatening messages from reaching users. So, it is unknown how the abusive tweet in question slipped through the company’s ads approval process.

I'd donate to this guy! Transgender are sickening.

RE: trsix. I am a straight male who has been on this planet better than half a century. What I find sickening is intolerant garbage-headed folks like you
no matter if your for or against that kind of lifestyle , why be so cruel as to encourage someone to off themselves? i mean the head battle must be torture alone, having to face that kind of intolerance..
What I find most amusing with people who claim to be so tolerant and all about diversity, promoting all this gay sh*t as 'normal' and preaching that they are so PC and they love all races, etc., etc. - are themselves some of the most viciously loud, racist, militant and violent posters on any forums who try and deny anyone a 'voice' who has different views (ie., 'Conservative') while also trying to deny the same Freedom of Speech - and Freedom of Thought - that they themselves scream and rage about.
So, #1 finds transgenders sickening - that's his 'Right' to think and be how he is, while #2 shows his own intolerance to any view differing from his own liberal agenda and even goes one further by name calling on #1. Total hypocrite.
Carjacker, I agree generally with what you're saying about the self-proclaimed tolerant diversity people being among the most hateful bigots on the web, and I agree that free speech should be encouraged. Commenter #1 should completely be allowed to say he finds transgenders sickening, without censure.
When he says he'd donate to someone urging transgenders to off themselves, that's where I personally no longer support it. This is a group of people who are commonly in an emotionally vulnerable state due to how society sees them.
The same way I'd want to protect somebody saying, on a general message board, that he thinks suicidal people should go ahead and kill themselves; I want to protect people expressing unpopular opinions. But when he goes onto a support board for suicidal people and tells them to kill themselves, that's beyond expressing an opinion, and I don't support it at all. That's poisoning the web and there's no good that comes from permitting or encouraging it.
clearly a topic not well suited for this site

Carjacker, Let me explain a couple of things to you:
1) Freedom of Speech (definition): the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint from authority. This has nothing to do with people posting comments on a message board. Speech has consequences in everyday life. For example, you cannot go into work and tell your boss to f%&* off and expect not to get fired. Freedom of speech only protects one from government censorship. Don't worry, there are many other stupid people who struggle with this concept. You are not alone!
2) Although your particular example of hypocrisy makes no logical sense, there are many people who often make hypocritical statements. In fact, it's fairly common amongst humans. However, this does not somehow make bigotry acceptable. Let's try to stick to topic.
Dseth, you need to learn how to actually read and understand how a dictionary may explain a concept/idea - or any other incorporeal 'substance' - and how those same things are actually implemented or acted upon in reality.
So, all that Freedom of Speech is - is an idea given substance by being written on a piece of paper by those who have either taken - or been given - Power and then passed down to the masses and proclaimed as a 'Right' as a Law of the land.
In effect, this has no more worth than the paper it is written upon, since those in Power determine the language and definition of 'Laws' to suit either a Political, Personal or Social agenda. These 'Rights', 'laws' and whatnot are constantly being redefined - and most often while not even being rewritten - by 'public opinion', violence - in the form of looting, riots and destruction of whole neighborhoods - and other forms contributing to civilization's decay and fall.
"Freedom of Speech (definition): the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint from authority" - seems to imply that you believe this definition only applies to a Governmental 'Authority', yet you fail to realize the missing word 'Government' or any equivalent.
Authority, in this context of the definition, can be any entity - Human,Institution, Government or anything else - that has the power to force you to conform to certain ways and behaviors against your own Free Will.
Your 2nd sentence is therefore negated by your unfortunate lack of intelligence to understand the definition as I have further explained it - as even message boards do have authority - in the form of Humans who make up the Moderator/Administration team of the website - as they make their own rules and 'laws' regarding what is acceptable to their own personal views.
Take your 2 sentences here: "Speech has consequences in everyday life. For example, you cannot go into work and tell your boss to f%&* off and expect not to get fired."
I will say I agree with the first, but the 2nd again shows your lack of critical thinking while just being critical with no basis to back up your statement.
Someone going into a job and cursing out their boss is going to have consequences, that's a given, BUT the consequences, in general, are not going to be an arrest, censorship or death sentence.
The person gets fired, sure, but Im guessing that if you go and curse out your boss that you're expecting that to happen anyway.
Your statement shows you think fairly linear and not abstract where you can come up with a more intelligent example to put forth, as your example is truly worthless and should not even be considered.
"Freedom of speech only protects one from government censorship." - you're kidding, right? Now, while this concept definition is written and thought of different according to area and region, as far as written Laws go, in The USA, the concept is supposedly a protected 'right' unless it involves either harm or causing harm, whether to persons, property or other things, which I will provide a link to here: http://www.uscourts.gov/about-federal-courts/educational-resources/about-educational-outreach/activity-resources/what-does
Now, let me end the answers to your #1's statements by saying your ending back to YOU: "Don't worry, there are many other stupid people who struggle with this concept. You are not alone!"
I wont even answer #2 because you have shown a blinding lack of education, any research into the topic or into your answers to my post, any type of knowledge on your 'Freedoms' (lol)- and neither have you shown critical thinking or clearly provided either sources or pointed statements.
You use a pseudo-intellectual pose to promote a sarcasm and front to people in the misguided attempt to have people see you as some sort of 'wise man' - you are not.
I suggest you continue your education at the nearest grade school where you left off. Good luck with that. Have a nice day.

Carjacker, your thinking on this slightly skewed. Guy #1 says trans folk sicken him and he would gladly fund a campaign to encourage them to kill themselves. Guy #2 says what sickens him is those who would hate the lives of others enough to encourage them to commit suicide. And you think #2 is part of a group of 'the most viciously loud, racist, militant and violent posters on any forums who try and deny anyone a 'voice' who has different views to them?' Nice logic.
You say yourself... 'So, #1 finds transgenders sickening - that's his 'Right' to think and be how he is, while #2 shows his own intolerance to any view differing from his own liberal agenda and even goes one further by name calling on #1. Total hypocrite.'
So encouraging suicide amongst a section of society is just good old freedom of speech and calling someone a dick for doing so is hypocrisy and bullying? Right. Got it.

Transgender = as normal as anything else. Points well made by all the tolerant people posting on this subject. Hate speech is not free speech, it diminishes the user as a human being. Nazi Germany had lots of free speech and I don't think that advanced the human species at all.I would rather be transgender, as difficult a path as it is for many, than to be born to hate and not love my fellow human kind.
|Now if it were promoting Child molesters and copywrite trolls to commit suicide we would have a telethon, and and a how to suicide clinic and volunteers to help em out if they are having trouble finishing.||
