The tech giant is finally ready to introduce its new streaming music service projected to take on Spotify. It is known that Apple has been working on it since acquiring Beats Electronics back in 2014.
According to the industry experts, the new music-streaming service can develop alongside Apple’s existing iTunes music download store. They expect that the users will be charged £10 in the United Kingdom or $10 in the United States per month for unlimited access to the vast catalogue of music. Although Apple has been negotiating licensing deals with record labels right up to the last minute, the service is expected to launch on time.
Apple hired Dre, Iovine, Beats Music’s chief creative officer, Trent Reznor (also of rock group Nine Inch Nails), DJ Zane Lowe and 4 of his Radio 1 producer colleagues to run the service. Besides, there were rumors that the company will offer radio-style curated playlists from such tastemakers as Pharrell Williams, Drake and David Guetta.
Apparently, the company’s major rival will be Spotify, which is currently the most popular subscription streaming service across the world. Spotify accounts for 60 million active users, 15 million of which are paying subscribers. Apple will also have to compete with Rhapsody, Google Play Music, Deezer and Tidal.
Aside from the new music streaming service, Apple is also ready to unveil iOS update – software for its mobile devices. Experts predict that the developers will focus on stability improvements, plus they expect new features for the community of app developers. One should admit that the developer base grows dramatically, with an increasing number of developers working on a wider range of solutions in a wider geography. Indeed, the figures say that the app industry is already bigger than Hollywood.
Finally, the tech giant may also unveil changes to its Apple TV service, as well as an expansion of its contactless payment system Apple Pay, which was introduced in the United States 9 months ago and enables users to pay for goods and services at physical shops.
Finally, the company is expected to launch a software development kit for Apple Watch app developers that would let them design full applications running on the device itself, instead of extensions of iPhone apps.
