Ashley Madison Denied the Fact of Hack

As you may know, over 2,500 customer records have been published online by the hackers who claim to have stolen the total database of the dating service Ashley Madison, which accounts for 33m members in 46 countries. Now the company is in disarray with its own customer service center telling customers their accounts are secure – this is despite the parent company admitting the leak of user records.

It turned out that when people call Ashley Madison to find out how to delete an account, they are told that the system is completely secure and the hack in question actually failed, so there was no leak of personal data.

In the meantime, the initial statement from the hackers, who call themselves The Impact Team, contains personal data about two website users, along with the link to 6 different repositories of a data dump containing 2,500 records. Ashley Madison then got these links and files removed from the Internet, using copyright law. The Impact Team claims to have access to all of the site’s user accounts.

Apparently, the hackers wanted to attract attention to the fact that Ashley Madison charged its users £15 in the UK and $19 in the US to completely remove their accounts, but failed to do so even after the money had been paid. They requested that the parent company took down some of its dating sites, including Ashley Madison, largely known for encouraging infidelity.

Security specialists admit that this particular hack was likely to be more damaging than others, because Ashley Madison’s customers would be loath to admit that they are victims and ask for help. Indeed, dating site users usually feel more violated after a breach and are less likely to reach out for advice on how to manage their personal data after such hack.

thomcomstock avatarIt is quite incredible how profound the impact of capitalism can so degrade the family and the moral and ethical stability of society and each of the individuals within such a sick, profit-driven society. It is only since my own discovery of both the Zeitgeist Movement and The Venus Project that I began to understand that we live in a world of abundance where access to everything could be free to all as opposed to the world of scarcity that the rich and the powerful via the media would have us believe.

The suggestion that someone (anyone) should decide to jeopardise their happiness and their family in order to have a temporary affair (unless that were the societal norm) could only be motivated by profit. What else would a group or individual attain by such but the potential for capital gain? What one motive beside profit accounts for 99% of crime today? Remove the profit motive by making the world FREE and you remove almost all crime as well as almost all of the stressors that produce almost all of the mental problems evoked by the need to pay for one's own food, shelter and clothing as well as all of the accoutrements necessary to modern life.

How do we make the world free? Automate all labor and instead of trying to create jobs, let us all embrace their loss.

I have heard people say,"But, then everyone will just vegetate; hang around on their couches with nothing to do!"

I say,"Really, is that what you would do if given access to all of the resources that you were able to control?" If you were given the ability to go to school for free and to learn from the very best minds, past and present, would you sit upon a couch? If the value of a man or woman or child was based upon what they returned to their community, be it love or wisdom or learning, as opposed to the accumulated wealth that they kept to themselves... who would the society value more?

The basis for all of humankind's problems today lies in the capitalistic, for profit system that make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Solcis avatarSpoken like a true Communist. And what would you do to the people who refused to participate in this society?

Oh, that's right- you would just kill them all.

Nothing is free. NOTHING. If you choose to buy something, someone is on the other end producing it. This can be clothes. Or electronics. Or vegetables. Pretty much anything. A shopkeeper will sell it to you in exchange for... currency. God forbid!

I respect the first Zeitgeist movie, but when they advocate for what amounts to a worldwide Communist system, they've gone totally batshxt. The whole system as it stands is not long for this world and deserves limitless criticism. But exchanging fascism for Communism is like killing the patient to cure the "disease".

Some people who have never run a business of any kind have absolutely no idea what it takes to produce something. I'm looking at the last poster. The risk. The work. The partnerships. The promotion. The losses. And finally, the successes. Apparently these things will just appear out of thin air. Or will be produced by people paid nothing, with no competition. How many countless more millions of bodies will it take until these ideas are condemned to the garbage can of history?????

Vinyl avatarsorry #3 he #2 sounded more like a socialist than communist to me and in case you weren't aware Australia is considered to be a socialist country so is Canada and while their respective healthcare systems have their own challenges they are far superior to other countries including your United States.

I think hacker groups who have a social conscience are called Hacktivists and honestly Ashley Madison is a huge advertiser in countries like Australia, and i dont know if you can make someone commit adultery or have an illicit affair but you sure can aid and abet encourage and enable people who are already experiencing marital problems towards it. Personally i think it was just a matter of time before someone challenged them, I mean c'mon their slogan is "Life Is Short, Have an Affair".

I'm glad they got hacked and hope that it might aid in their eventual closure and demise. They should have implemented the steps needed to protect their customers to begin with. Had they not been so cheap and greedy and sacrificed their clients data security things might have been different.

Solcis avatarVinyl, you'd better look up the meaning of the world "socialist" then. Because under that system of economics and government, income is redistributed from one segment of society to another. Usually from people who produce to people who don't. They always reach a point where "other people's money" runs out, which is why socialism always fails. It's an experiment that's been tried time and again over the past 100 years, with the same result every time. As for Canada, try looking at the economics of their most populous province sometime, Ontario. They have a third of the people of California (which has more people than all of Canada, btw), yet they've somehow managed to rack up double the debt. You can chalk most of that up to public sector unions and "free" healthcare. So try again.

"They should have implemented the steps needed to protect their customers to begin with. Had they not been so cheap and greedy and sacrificed their clients data security things might have been different."

100% agreed. Any company that behaves so badly with their customers' data deserves to be disgraced by hackers on the world stage. But judging a company that didn't hurt anyone and wishing ill on them makes you part of the problem. People have their reasons for stepping out on a relationship or marriage. For the latter, many a time it's "so I can stay for the kids". Otherwise, without another man/woman, there would be a disastrous divorce and the family would be broken up. Or perhaps you'd prefer it that way because it's "moral". People make bad decisions all the time, especially by getting married to someone they don't love, or accidentally getting pregnant and doing the right thing by keeping the baby. Allowing people to hookup with others and catering to something that's in high demand is just fine by me. But Ashley Madison is scum for not protecting their customers' data, lying to them about it, then crying to the government that they can't find those who are responsible, and lastly asking the government to protect them when they should have protected themselves. For all of these reasons, I hope Ashley Madison customers sue the company out of existence. Just remember that if they do and that happens, another bunch of site will quickly take its place. As they should in a free market.
