The American government whistleblower Edward Snowden claimed that encryption might prevent us from distinguishing signals from alien species from the space. Recently, Snowden appeared from Russia on the StarTalk podcast to express his views.
Two years ago, after Snowden leaked documents on NSA surveillance to media outlets, he had to seek asylum in Russia under threat of US prosecution, and he successfully got it. In the recent interview, Edward told about himself, saying, for example, that he signed up for the US army after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Then, somehow, the talk turned to the possibility that data encryption might be making it more difficult to intercept communications from aliens.
In regard to this issue, Edward Snowed pointed out that if you look at encrypted communications (in case they are properly encrypted), you can’t actually tell that they are encrypted. In other words, a properly encrypted communication can’t be distinguished from random behavior.
This means that as we get more sophisticated and move from “open” to encrypted communications, the space signals being broadcast tend to stop looking like recognizable signals at all. The rules if this game are clear: if you have an alien civilization trying to listen for other civilizations (us), or vice versa, it is very unlikely that their communication is sent via the most primitive and most unprotected means. Because there’s only one small period in the development of the society when the communications are not encrypted. After that, their messages would be so encrypted that it would render them unrecognizable to us, and the humanity simply would not even realize it had received them.

Somehow I have the impression that this is not all of what was said on the pod caste. Anyway the news department can link us to the podcaste itself?
How about some deeper-investigative journalism, digging for the real content of what else was said?

#1 or you could open itunes and search "star talk radio" for yourself. This is a news article not your personal podcast transcript creators. Go look it up for yourself. Don't be so damn lazy!!!
Both Snowden and Assange are lying, shill, actors.
@#3 really???? how come everything they have said ends up with the documents and prove of their truth???? I smell government GMO bacon

#2, what about those who do not use itunes (you a dope) ...? you think itunes is the solution to all web content and there is no other way to deliver a snowden presentation?
Why log in anywhere for free, open source content?
