The ongoing investigation is examining claims that high school students hacked CIA director’s AOL account and made information about 20 alleged CIA personnel publicly available. A few days ago, the hackers released a spreadsheet allegedly from his account that included the CIA employees’ clearance levels, email addresses, phone numbers and SSNs.
According to former NSA technical director, the highly embarrassing breach of CIA director’s email was likely a “social engineering” attack that uses personal data that only the account holder would know to gain access. The problem is that social media has enabled this to the nth degree today, since a quick profile search can provide hackers with enough information to successfully hack people. All the providers have to have something else in place.
The hackers tweeted that they would release more data from Brennan’s account, which they reportedly breached after convincing Verizon to give them the details. It is known that the AOL account was suspended the same day it was breached. The unnamed hacker described himself as an “American high school student” who was motivated by opposition to foreign policy of the United States. The FBI is currently investigating the breach.
The hackers have also tweeted that they are not Muslim but support Palestinian statehood. They kept up a steady stream of teasing tweets with screenshots of potentially damaging data, including screenshots of financial info.
This hack comes as Hillary Clinton faces intense criticism of her use of a private email account while serving as secretary of state. She will testify before Congress about her private email server soon. It should also be noted that within the past several weeks, the hackers targeted data broker Experian, the US government’s Office of Personnel Management, and Donald Trump’s hotel chain.
According to the experts in security solutions, the general problem was not technological. The matter is that every single email app has the capability to take security measures – for example, keys and certificates. The problem is that nobody uses them. In this particular case, if AOL or Verizon had raised a red flag by tracking the location of the login against CIA director’s usual points of access, the attack might never have happened.

HaHa not so funny when someone does it to them for a change, thanks to Snowden we are all more than aware of their spying on the general populace contrary to their own laws from 2000 onwards and even after they have worked around their own laws using the patriot act it is still a despicable act, now its done to them they have a taste of their own medicine and their privacy is breached I hope they experience how the rest of us feel about having our privacy undermined to serve their ends.

The CIA uses AOL???
This is what happens when you have old dinosaurs in charge of technology divisions that do not understand how technology works. Maybe in the next couple decades the USA will have internet savvy government that knows to keep their tihs offline. Until then, though, they will get hacked and everyone will laugh at them.

Good lord are we still on Hillary Clinton's email bs? nobody cares, move on repubs.
Honestly she should be given a medal, as her use of said private emails was around the same time the us government servers were being hacked by either korea or china (I forget which).. thereby keeping said email contents out of their hands. I cant help but find it funny that when the email thing blew up in her face, the first news story related to it was as an immediate follow up to news of the us government servers being hacked. funny how that little tidbit got swept under the rug.
