The social network has activated its Safety Check feature in Nigeria after a Tuesday bombing. The feature allows any user present in an area to mark that they are safe. This is the 5th time that this Facebook feature has been activated, and the second time that it was done after a terrorist attack – the first was during Friday’s attacks in Paris.
Wednesday morning, Facebook announced that the feature was switched back on and explained that after the Paris attacks they decided to use Safety Check for more tragic events. Earlier, the feature had only been used for natural disasters, like the earthquakes in Nepal in April and May and October’s Hurricane Patricia.
However, some people fear that opening Safety Check up to terror attacks could have a different effect to using Safety Check for natural disasters. For example, some are worried that the feature could aid terrorists in achieving their goal – promote a widespread feeling of fear. One may agree that Safety Check might even reinforce terror’s message, forcing users to look at the faces of friends who were never endangered and reminding of the dozens of people who could have been in the wrong place, at the wrong time – but were not. In other words, its use can recreate the fearful shockwave that terrorism also seeks to create.
On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg preached a message of hope in his announcement of activating Safety Check in Nigeria, citing the statistics, which showed that deaths from war were lower than ever, murder rates were generally dropping around the world, and even terrorist attacks were actually declining. Zuckerberg believes that a small minority of extremists can’t make people pessimistic about future.

|Yeah thats right a small minority cant make us pessimistic about the future.|
Only the terrorist activities of MPAA and RIIA can do it.
They are wicked and evil and worry me more than ISIS,Taliban ect.
