According to the recent research on some EU member states and the US, British and French consumers were getting the best deals for Internet, TV, and mobile services. On the contrary, US consumers are paying the most.
Ofcom, the British regulator overseeing the Internet, studied a basket of packages for 5 representative households, ranging from ones with basic needs (including phones and free TV but no Internet), to “sophisticated households” with high-end pay TV and superfast broadband connection.
Following the results of the research, it was found that the United Kingdom and France consistently offered cheaper available options and lower average prices for households taking on each service individually or signing up to discounted bundles.
Among all the countries under consideration, France offered the lowest prices, just overtaking the United Kingdom, which had the best prices overall last year. However, British consumers picking services separately still get a cheaper option than their peers across the Channel. On the other hand, French telecoms and TV companies are currently offering better bundles.
According to the Ofcom’s research, the better French deals come despite the increased emphasis on discounted bundles by British telecom firms like Sky and BT. Nevertheless, Ofcom said that if a household opted for a fixed broadband connection, it was almost always cheaper to purchase services as a bundle. On average, British consumers saved about 18% in this case.
As for the United States, which was assessed based on data from Illinois, it somehow came out as most expensive for each representative household on both lowest and average prices.

|What absolute rubbish. The cost of a mobile account and broadband account is expensive in France with very little choice of ISPs. The prices are virtually all the same excluding "Free" which offers a mobile deal for €2 which includes 2hr of calls, unlimited text and 50mb of data. In France there is hardly any price competition at all and the consumers suffer for it.|
|Internet is as cheap as chips in the UK but its the line rental that blows it away @ close to £20.00 per month.||
