The social network announced changes to its controversial “real name” policy in the wake of criticism. As you may remember, transgender people and victims of domestic abuse didn’t like the policy.
Facebook bans anonymity and requires its users to indicate their birth names on their accounts, but this causes problems for those using in life different names from the one they were born with. For the same reason, transgender people and victims of domestic violence using aliases to hide from the abusers also couldn’t like the policy. The social network confirmed that it is still committed to having verifiable names linked to their accounts, but wants to adjust the policy for everyone, particularly for communities who are marginalized or face discrimination.
Apparently, the changes to the policy will relax some rules on how people verify their names, improve the name verification process and introduce new procedure for reporting fake names. The new policy is reported being tested in the United States at the moment to allow developers work out bugs and determine how best to expand it globally.
The changes to the policy will require people who are reporting users for having fake names to provide more information, because critics of the new policy suspect that users guilty of the bullying behavior, which Facebook is committed to prevent, target them.
If your profile is flagged after going through this reporting process, you will now be presented with options to explain your choice of the name, including: “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer” and “affected by abuse, stalking or bullying”. You will also have a week to dispute the challenge, while now the accounts are immediately blocked.

I have at least 4 facebook accounts with fake names besides my real name account for years.
Just to see if one can do it.
I don't know how they verify names, actually facebook doesn't verify names.
how does their process work. Is an individual using a fake name reported to facebook by someone? Then Facebook takes action?
Anyways go ahead anyone concerned about using real names. Set up a gmail or other web account and use that to create FB account with fake name. Very simple.
All the best
Glad I got off of FB. I don't miss it at all. The dumbest rules for people who like to bitch the most.
Millions of users have multiple accounts; &/or accounts with fake names; it is the easiest requirement to side-step on the site.....
I have at least 1 alt with a fake name; never had any problem verifying it...
Facebook is a playground for predators and stalkers. Everyone who is underage should wisely avoid it - at least their parents should be responsible and forbid their children from using Facebook until they become adults and make their own decisions - ones like smoking, drinking, taking drugs, or going to strip clubs.
This Guy kept getting kicked off because of his real name

Great for advertising though. Cut my business advertising cost by more then $65
Seriously, that's a very dangerous situation giving out your real
name and cell phone number. I actually located where people
live, there family member's name, where there work and go to
school at all thanks to Facebook. By the way, I even use
Google maps to pinpoint house and bedroom.
I have just had my account (S#*#*n Rottweiler's) banned after nearly 9 years because i created an account for my dogs and to chat with other Rottweiler breeders around the world, but someone reported my account for the very same reason mentioned in the above article.
Personally i believe that Facebook are not happy because they cannot make any money off false data!!
They stated i could have my account back if i provided a copy of my passport, driving license or any other genuine photo id.
Fcuk the spying regime of facebook, but then again i cannot believe how much information people freely put on their profiles and obviously not just Fb either.
Mad i say............... The whole world gone mad!!!
|facebooks whole name policy is stupid anyways. why does it matter what name you use as long as its not dirty or something. i used to use short version of my first and last instead of putting the whole thing. facebook decided to pop up a message saying i need to use my full name or else my acc would be shut down. so now my acc has my full name which i hate using online. and i cant change since fb says i have changed my name to much. been like this for over a year now. id love to change it but ofc fb wont allow me to. ridiculous really.||
