Yes! Its true that Iron Man 2 has achieved the fifth-biggest opening weekend. It has now left behind the previous Iron Man and earned $133.6M in US Box Office weekend collections.
According to the records of Paramount Pictures distributor, till the weekend, "Iron Man 2" in which the leading role cast was done again by Robert Downey Jr. as a happy-go-lucky, funny and real gadget maniac Iron Man, has collected $133.6 million in the local box-office. And with that collection it has now moved forward and crossed its precedent part that had collected $98.6 million as its opening weekend in box-office in the year 2008.
Paramount's vice president of distribution, Don Harris said that, "We're thrilled with the combination of the way it's playing across the board. It's playing as a fanboy movie, but it's also playing as family movie, too. I even know a bunch of people who are planning to take their mothers to see 'Iron Man 2' on Mother's Day, which really made me chuckle."
This is not it. It has made its debut internationally too and marked its markets with the collection of $194 million last week. And as an overall calculation, it has come to a total of more than $327 million as a collection from all around the world.
From all the regions where the movie was released, collection from China was the largest one as the movie collected $7.3 million.
From Hollywood.com, the box-office analyst, Paul Dergarabedian said, "It's a perfect kickoff to the summer of 2010. It literally sets the tone for the entire summer movie season. To have the fifth biggest opening week of all time certainly sends a message that this summer season is going to make its mark. Audiences really do get caught up in that."
Just recently, movies like “AVATAR”,“Alice In Wonderland” & " Clash of The Titans" were ruling the box-office in 3-D, but “Iron Man 2” is released only in 2-D and surprisingly ruling the box-office as its has made a great record in IMAX 2-D theaters and collected $10.2 million as a record. Moreover, it has left behind the previous record of Star Trek’s $8.5 million of last year in IMAX theaters and the same thing has been confirmed by Greg Foster, the President and Chairman of IMAX. He said, "I think people recognize IMAX is the way to see blockbuster titles, whether it's a 2-D or 3-D movie."
One more person from Paramount, Harris also admired the movie and said, "When we opened the original 'Iron Man,' it seemed to be one of the lesser known properties in the Marvel galaxy. Two years later, it's one of the most beloved characters. I think the people at Marvel are incredibly bullish about how future 'Iron Man' movies might do and how 'Iron Man' interacts with their other characters."
Iron Man 2 still lags behind many movies with unbreakable records, and the movie still has to go further and survive more in box-office in order to break any of the records of those movies, the list of movies which are still ahead is here>>
"Iron Man 2" was on top at the box-offices of this weekend. Previously, "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was the one which held its No. 1 place on box-office ,but it has come to No. 2 this weekend and collected $9.1 million, getting its overall total collection to $48.5 million. Moreover, The one which is at No. 3 is "How to Train Your Dragon" which collected $6.7 million, and its grand total of seven-week has now gone up-to $201 million.
Lets see how long the sequel (Iron Man 2) goes on further.

But the industry is losing SO MUCH money right? LOL!
If the industry wants my sympathy for their monetary losses, they should look between SH*T and syphilis, it's there waiting for them.

I dont like iron man 2 it doesn't have any story as opposed to the first one and i think people got disappointed after watching this movie.I dont know how this film earned so much
but i do know that people want to watch what's inside the film and go to imax or whatever near them, watch the film etc that's how the money is being raised i think.
or maybe it is just a false stats to save hollywoods reputation we all know that due to recession it is on losses.Well hollywood is expert in making fake stories and fantasy titles so in this case maybe they are tryin to save iron man's rep so that next year it even gets more viewers worldwide.
Why can't they leave us alone? All that money even though it was available for download from many sites on the internet. They obviously are not losing money as they claim. As for the movie; I didn't think it was as good as the first, but it was still a good movie(almost great). Feed the need and seed!
