The Pirate Bay faces another problem with its domain names. It’s been only a few days that the torrent indexer switched on its new .ms domain, but the latter has already been suspended by the Montserratian registry. The website now has to look out for new alternatives to keep it running.
It should be said that the last few months were hard for The Pirate Bay due to multiple problems with domain names. It previously lost 6 domain names after it switched from its .se mainstay. The most interesting fact is that the Swedish TLD appeared to be more resilient than any of the alternatives. The site moved to ThePirateBay.ms domain last week, but the Montserrat-based website didn’t last long and has already been suspended. Now it shows the infamous “serverhold” status. This means that the responsible registry suspended the domain under someone else’s request. Similar status has been used before, when domain names were flagged for copyright troubles, and strips the domain name of its DNS entries. According to ICANN explanation, the “serverhold” status code is set by the domain’s registry operator and means that the affected domain is not activated in the DNS.
So, ThePirateBay.ms went offline like many other alternative domains used by the largest torrent tracker in the world. This takes The Pirate Bay back to square one again, and the only stable domain names are now ThePirateBay.org and ThePirateBay.se. It is unknown whether the site operators have any plans to add any new domains, but they previously said that they had many domain names prepared. It is likely that one or more will become active soon, again.
