Apple Finally Fixed Its “Error 53”

The tech giant has finally issued a fix for iPhone users affected by “Error 53”. This was a software issue that effectively “bricked” iPhones that had had their home buttons replaced by non-authorized dealers. “Error 53” was related to Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint reader that can be used to unlock the smartphone instead of inputting a passcode.

fixed.th.jpg

If a third party replaced the button on a damaged Apple device, a subsequent update of iOS will detect a non-standard component and simply lock the device “due to security reasons” without any way to restart it. Thousands of iPhone users who had their damaged phones repaired were outraged to find their devices “bricked” after iOS update, and Apple retailers couldn’t offer them anything but buy a new phone.

Initially, Apple claimed that “Error 53” was a security feature to protect its customers and prevent a fraudulent Touch ID sensor from being used. After the investigators in many countries started looking into the problem, Apple changed its mind and said the issue was just a “factory test”. The company issued a fix with an updated version of iOS 9.2.1 and apologized for any inconvenience to customers. However, the problem has already gained widespread publicity – the company has been served with a class action lawsuit in the US and attention from a competition watchdog in Australia.

Now the software update will allow users with disabled Apple devices clear the error by connecting them to iTunes and installing the updated iOS. You should remember that the update can’t be applied directly to iPhone via the cloud. Besides, addressing the issue will not re-enable the replaced Touch ID, because Apple continues to believe that a 3rd-party replacement of the home button could potentially allow unauthorized access to a locked device by modifying the fingerprint sensor.

Selsley avatarmy phone my repair my fault if i lose my phone and someone else is able to access it, nothing to do with apple after its sold. if people want to have better security then they can choose to get a proper repair, not have it forced on them at an extortionate cost

No avatarOn your face SHITpple.
....Besides, addressing the issue will not re-enable the replaced Touch ID.... One of the reasons why CRapple owns you when you buy any of their shit. Be intelligent and buy an Android device which you will "own" in the real sense.

lalhlunpac avatarNo no no...Apple is great. I've been using iPhone and iPad since 2010 to this very day. If Android is so cool why not compete with them instead of cpying their products'

Crash1 avatar#5 is right ... Apple have been tech thieves since the early 80's. (they stole the idea for the Graphical User Interface and Mouse directly from Xerox {who were too stupid at the time to realize what they had and patent it. Imagine how much money Xerox would have today, if they'd only FILLED OUT A PATENT APPLICATION! They'd be getting royalties for every PC, Tablet and Mobile Phone on the planet.})

Also note that since Steve Jobs died there have been almost NO NEW innovations at Apple, but rather small improvements on existing technology. (They're even too stupid to put a SD or MicroSD card slot in their tablets or phones so people can expand the memory, like EVERY OTHER TABLET MANUFACTURER does ... That innovation became popular AFTER Jobs' died, so CRApple ignored it.)
