Copyright holders have been voicing concerns about the revenue stream of the torrent sites who accept Bitcoin donations for a few years now. However, there’s nothing to fear with TPB receiving an average of just $9 per day in Bitcoin donations. Moreover, it's a fortune compared to the donations received by KickassTorrents.
It’s been 3 years after many popular torrent websites started to accept donations in Bitcoin. The Pirate Bay was one of the first to do so and make copyright holders worry. At the time, the Recording Industry Association of America even warned that Bitcoin could make it harder to crack down on pirate websites.
The Pirate Bay started accepting donations in Bitcoin, a currency operating through P2P technology and lacking any central authority or banks involved, which makes it nearly impossible to seize or trace Bitcoin funds – to do so, the law enforcement authorities would need access to the computer where the Bitcoin wallet is kept.
On the other hand, Bitcoin makes it easy to see how much donations are being received: an advantage of this currency is that all transactions are public and traceable, so that anyone can see how much money the torrent tracker is making through donations. If you take a look at the Bitcoin wallet address shown on every TPB page, you can find out that 376 donations were sent over the past year, totaling to about $3,500. As you can understand, the site’s operators are not getting rich off user donations. However, even this money is a fortune when compared to other prominent torrent sites. For example, KickassTorrents has raked in only $250 in donations which it doesn’t promote (Bitcoin address is only listed in the site’s FAQ).

That doesn't include advertising revenue...
One years membership (12 months) at $5.00 a month is $60.00
365 days a year divided by $60.00 is 6 cents a day.... 6 pennies a day.
What else can you buy for 6 cents a day?
Thank You Sam & ExtraTorrent.
You can feed an Ethiopian kid on six cents a day.
If there were options other than bitcoin for donations I have no doubt that would greatly increase the amount of money torrent trackers would receive. Paypal?
@4 Well played
@5 I wholly agree.
If it were not for my kids setting up my Bit Coin account I wouldn't have been able to donate myself.
