A Swedish Court of Appeals recently issued a ruling which may attract your attention. After many months of court fighting in Sweden, the court have finally ruled that Swedish-Finnish telecom giant TeliaSonera is obliged to disclose identities of people using SweTorrents to Svensk Filmindustri, a Swedish film company.
The Court of Appeals is reported to have made a decision to uphold the demand of the District Court to require an ISP to divulge the personal information of the owners of some IP-addresses. If the telecom giant fails to comply with the court injunction, it is threatened to face a fine of about $100,000. The ruling was made on the basis of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive (IPRED), the controversial copyright legislation. This case is the second one concerning disclosing the personal information, the first being pushing provider Ephone to reveal file-sharers’ information to the book publishers.
Why this decision is so important is that it can be considered to be the crossroad for the future of the country’s digital industry. The ruling means that demanding an Internet Service Provider to disclose its users’ identities to copyrights owners can serve a proof of Americanization of Swedish legislation. It becomes obvious when simply taking a look at the US to understand what can happen to unmasked file-sharers if the copyrights owners get a change to catch them. DMCA, an American copyright legislation, caused thousands of US citizens to receive legal letters. One can also see accused file-sharers facing penalties of thousands or million dollars by such outstanding cases as those of Tenenbaum and Jammie Thomas.
Cory Doctorow has got some comments related to a recent issue, bringing the attention to court litigation between YouTube and Viacom. He called the copyright reforms the cause of entertainment industry becoming a huge lawsuit factory. He explains that since the reform makes it much easier to sue internet users, entertainment companies may sooner or later get attracted to a different business model, which focuses not on producing and promoting entertainment, but on pushing for more lawsuits. Facing any barriers against expanded litigation, the entertainment companies can simply lobby the government on the issue of eliminating those barriers.

@2die4: Ya, no kidding. but they wont, in fear of further class-action law suits.
but no matter, they will just end the end, cause customers to go to alternatives.
At this rate, all there doing in encouraging Pirated DVD/BR disc sales, in media form, rather than the file form we see now. they can track IP's. but they cant track 'Encrypted Data-DVD's" and such forth. Its not like if you started selling "Blank-DVD's" to people with youre "Vouchers. in set's of 3's. 1 being the data-disc. the other 2 containing, the key and a blank disc.
it would be impossible to track down.
I want the name of all the judges that have a traffic ticket, criminals are criminals,so lets put all the names out there,oh and I want the names of the corrupt judges to be disclosed by the jugde disclosing thingy, yeah :D what I really mean ,now seriously as this is a quite serious matter is:this is the end of privacy,I should be able to share as I seem fit as I bought a computer and pay for the internet service so its my right to share a file if I want to,any kind of file not just music or movies,as in the end everyone will suffer with this measures cause the file sharing system would come to an end with the end of privacy!!
Okay so P2P'ers will then jus rar or winzip, other compression types and try and track that..
