“Hurt Locker” Producer Is Losing His Temper

Just a week ago producers of the “Hurt Locker” movie were reported to say they are going to sue several thousand file-sharers for copyright infringement resulted from downloading their film. It was quite a shot period of time before a producer of “Hurt Locker” sent a rather fierce (to say the least) reply to one of the critics who threatened to boycott all their other works in response to the start of litigation.

kid_crying.jpg

The impulsive exchange can be found posted on BoingBoing. Some Toronto citizen has mailed a letter to “Hurt Locker” producer telling him of a result the news about the producers starting suing thousands of BitTorrent downloaders can cause.

Actually, the letter was quite polite, although it was written by the critic, willing to let the producer know of his disagreement with the tactics they use in order to fight infringement. He also wanted to register that in response to those legal actions he decided to boycott all their movies. The reason of his disagreement is that he thinks Voltage Pictures has chosen the wrong way to tackle the problem. The matter is that most people they are going to sue were never seeking to profit from the downloading, and therefore will of course be financially upset by a lawsuit. Moreover, the author of the letter fully agreed with the producers’ wishes to defend their intellectual property, but only pointed out they opted for an inhumane way of doing that.

Well, apparently, the letter caused a very fiery reply. Nicolas Chartier responds that only morons believe that stealing is OK and he hopes the critic’s family and kids will finally end up in prison for stealing, which may probably be the only way for them to be taught the difference. As for now, Chartier encourages such people keeping being stupid and not to pay for his films as he would rather like more honest people to watch his works.

All this shows how it has always been so difficult to argue with people like Chartier – those, who believe the copyright has to be as tight as it only can. You wouldn’t get any logical response, but rather an insult like from a 5-year-old kid, deprived of a teddy-bear. This case clearly indicates the absence of any respect shown to anyone, including the fans who got called “morons”.

Chartier should grow up a little and understand that a shouting match he starts will only cause many people to know about it and join boycott. But that’s really up to him.

No avatarYeah I hope this douche has fun trying to sue literally 80 FRIGGIN PERCENT OF US CITIZENS. lol Now I do understand the reasoning for getting pissy when someone tries to actually make a monetary profit from the ripped movies/games/music etc. etc. etc. But I personally am not one of those individuals and I dont think that they are even a double digit number in the percentages of torrent downloaders and PC users in general. I download the ripped movies because I am severely agoraphobic (fear of going outside my house) and also have pretty crippling social anxiety disorder. So needless to say, I dont get out very much enough to go plop down in a theater. lol

jammybaby avatarthese people and their movies should really be boycotted not only in theaters but also they should be boycotted on p2p ...then only they will understand....its really amazing to see their greed ...they all make money on a product which is worth making money ...movies still make big bucks if they are good ...crap movies suffer so they should rather pay attention at making good movies which look good on big screen and cut down the ticket price and specially those freaky popcorns which r sold at a rediculious price in Indian multiplexes...and other parts of the world (i guess)...

conmac863 avatarThanks for the article SaM. Nice read.

Same here on buying movies after DL'ing them. The last 4 BluRay movies I have bought were because I saw them here and really enjoyed them. So now I get the full experience. Kinda like Shareware for movies.
I also feel if the movie is good you should support the people that make it.

As for Voltage pictures they will never get a dime from me. Boycott in effect.

Gorrog avatarThese people will never understand the reasons behind true pirating. There's always a group that wants to make a profit and then there's that group of people that heavily relies on P2P because there is no other option.

These people don't understand that we will actually pay for something we really like, because we WANT to support them when we really enjoy something they worked really hard on.

menahunie avatarI agree with Jammybaby post #3.
Thing is voltage is having lawsuit problems of their own. They are being sued by a Sgt. who states in his claim they portray him exactly as an EOD person in Iraq.
VGoltage has clearly shown their true colors - making money suing people..
I look as some posters have also states try before you buy. Many of the files I have watched via P2P I have bought.
The one that were carp I didn't. case in point - Book of Eli WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT..

However, after seeing what a stupid, ignorant summa-ma-bitch (see also, "prick")the producer is I will not watch, download, or stoop so low as to buy any film that he has any involvement in. mork_blasphemy avatarcompletely agree with joypader, some hollywood dudes say that the cams take millions away from them, but its quite the opposite,if they do a good movie its almost sure that everyone prefers to go to a cinema and watch the movie properly than watching it with poor quality, and so they say "well, but most of downloaders wait for the DvdRip" and I say:well,if the freakin movie is on a DVD already its not affecting the box office that much is it? As the first weeks are the ones that bring real money to them, and even there is many people that after watchin a movie at the cinema when they get the chance they download it to just keep it cause it is a really good film.So the answer I believe its quite obvious:Do decent movies and we will attend more to the cinemas, even if we still make downloads!!!

No avatarYa know if this was a film made from a "stolen story" as I generally believe it is, It makes for a karmic story does it not? Lets see the lawyers will profit not the producer as this is what usually happens after a judge rules costs are inadmissible. I think that's just the icing on the ticket, If his ex could make a film, and release it for whatever the downloader wants too pay and makes millions... I couldn't be happier for him too learn life's great lesson.

shame on him he has to pay his wife to get some...lol
my opinion is he is a twat....the film was rubbish not worth buying or downloading.
but it is funny how we see a thief stealing from a thief......so he is also a moron...
and i have a meesage for him......most downloaders will download a movies just to see if it is a good movie as trailers can sometimes be very misleading.....i will admit i have done this on many occasions but i will also buy DECENT movies if they are good i have i big selection of bluray movies (legit) and dont just download anything to keep cause its free...maybe if you try making a movie that is worth buying then maybe you wont have to complain......so stop being a little bitch and go make the next movie...dont forget to make it a good film though....OK...

dubbsizzle avatarI fail to understand why anyone would want to make consumers of their products the enemy. For one I only spend my money at theaters on highly anticipated movies. Never for those I have never heard of before and know nothing about. And I only purchase dvd's of those movies I know I like and have seen before. So without the ability to watch a movie how do they think they will make any money off of me if they do away with downloading. If i couldn't download i would just wait till i could rent the movie and copy it thru local stores and friends. And some of the movies I do buy are sold used from local retailers giving no money to the DVD manufacturer. So i ask. How will making me stop downloading get me to purchase or pay to see your movie.

Would we buy albums of artist we didn't know if we didn't hear a song on a radio, saw them perform locally or heard it from a friend. I don't think we would.

Now thats not to take away from the soldiers that did and are serving over there.
Theyre the ones that deserve the real applaus, Hurt Locker Producers are just wanabe leeches.
OK and crappy obscure movies are traditionally movies that get Oscars and awards.
So you got an Oscar, STFU and be happy. Im really sad (LOL) that your movie didnt make 1.3 trillion like Avatar

menahunie avatarWTF this prices to watch a "cartoon" in a theater. No wonder they are trying to stamp out p2p'ers.
Read this and they claim it was a "mistake":
$20 to see 'Shrek' on IMAX? That's a lot of green
From Associated Press
May 21, 2010 7:28 PM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) — A few theaters seemed to flirt with the idea of raising the adult ticket price to $20 to the IMAX 3-D family movie "Shrek Forever After," opening this weekend.

Four AMC theaters in Manhattan bumped the box office price to $20, but three quickly dropped the price on Friday. Two were charging $17 and two were selling tickets for $19.

AMC Theatres spokesman Justin Scott attributed the price hike to an error.

"Unfortunately, a limited number of theaters posted incorrect pricing for "Shrek Forever After," which we immediately corrected," he said. "Any guest who purchased a ticket at the incorrect price can visit Guest Services for a refund."

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the four theaters had listed the $20 price for the IMAX showing of "Shrek" on Wednesday.

Moviegoers would do well to consider taking in the new flick in neighboring New Jersey, where an AMC theater in the city of Elizabeth was selling tickets for $16.50.

BTIG LLC media analyst Richard Greenfield reported on his blog Thursday that a Fandango.com screenshot from the AMC Kips Bay movie theater in Manhattan showed a $20 price. On Friday, the same theater had dropped it to $17.

"Shrek Forever After" is the series' fourth installment, and the first in 3-D.

menahunie avatarCheck out the latest read here about the EFF needing help due to producers like this one. They put out crap movies and then sue tens of thousands of people for a payday.
See: EFF Needs Lawyers to Fight Mass Lawsuits.
Questio0n? who is supplying the many millions sof dollars for filing fee's for these lawsuits? I really would like to know?
Spending this kind of money to sue some one fro money...
I buy many of the files after looking at them to see of they are worth it. How many time have you walked into a store looked at that nice and pretty software box; read all the glowing statements about this and that as to what it will do? You then go great this is what I am looking for. You pay BIG MONEY for it, get it home, load it and bring it up online then you look at it and go WTF...
You go back to the store and tell this this is crap and they give you a "ah so sorry we don't take back opened software"...
Same goes for a car you want to buy; you test drive it to see if it is what you want and it fits your needs. It doesn't you don't buy the car.
Some say well there is try or trial ware from the software companies - yes there is; but most time like 99% it is "crippleware", it is so disabled the most things it can do it go yoo hoo and that is about it...
As for movies; now days it is getting far and between that I go out and buy the DVD or Blu-Ray disk at 25.00 and up because the MOVIE IS CRAP.. Many P2p do the same; they delete this crap and move on.
In parting read the EFF needs help and it becomes clear the producers do not intend their "crap" to make money; they intend to make money by suing the P2P community.. Just think over 30,000 people and more getting sued - wonder how many years that will take to go through the already clogged court systems?
My suggestion and it is up to you? You get sued and some how lose - you win you still lose with the legal fee's FILE BANKRUPTCY. Hey credit today is crap and many people have nothing to lose.
An old says go you can't get blood out of a stone AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THESE PRODUCERS HOPE TO DO..
I get sued; then I am going to have every actor and actress forced to come into court and tell the court how much money did they lose to P2p'ers? I will also force the MPAA and RIAA to release how much were the "artists" paid with the money won from all the law suits filed? I AM VERY SURE THEIR ANSWER WILL SURPRISE YOU. I'd bet most of them would state they have not seen a single dollar of that money..
