|TorrentFreak has recently pointed out that one of the episodes of the new season of TV show Mr. Robot includes a nod to online pirates: we can see the main character pirating a movie through uTorrent, with the movie folder open on the screen, listing releases of various pirate groups. One of the groups, YIFY, appreciated the mention in the movie, while another release group casted doubt on Elliot’s choice of BitTorrent client.
The 2nd season of Mr. Robot premiered in July 2016, portraying and appealing to a subculture of nerds, hacktivists, and technology insiders. It must be said that the show producers were inspired by The Pirate Bay founders, with Sam Esmail admitting that the main character is in part modeled after the illustrious trio. The show also includes various nods and easter eggs for the technology inclined – for instance, the first episode of the new season presented an online trail for people to follow in the real world. Another episode greeted online pirates – Elliot was shown playing a pirated movie, The Careful Massacre of the Bourgeoisie, via his PLEX media server. While this movie is not real, other pirate references displayed are not fake. You can see that Elliot uses a recent version of the uTorrent and his “movies” folder contains various other movies complete with release group tags including YIFY, PRiSTiNE, DiPSHiT, RARBG and CRiTERiON.
TorrentFreak who paid attention to this fact believes that the tags were not accidental but a nod towards the pirates in the audience, as well as the iconic FBI warning displayed when the movie starts playing. The release groups also notices the mention in the movie – for example, YIFY, who quit after running into legal trouble in 2015, said he appreciated the mention and liked that the producers of the show specifically tried to get an accurate reflection of the real world online.
On the other hand, the release groups, whose names in the movie are accurate, believe that there may be room for improvement in the show. For instance, they questioned Elliot’s BitTorrent client preference, saying that a pro hacker like him is unlikely to use non-open source software to download or stream torrents.

|Thanks for the news tip.|
"For those that don't know...the show is about a...
Young, anti-social computer programmer Elliot works as a cybersecurity engineer during the day, but at night he is a vigilante hacker. He is recruited by the mysterious leader of an underground group of hackers to join their organization. Elliot's task? Help bring down corporate America, including the company he is paid to protect, which presents him with a moral dilemma. Although he works for a corporation, his personal beliefs make it hard to resist the urge to take down the heads of multinational companies that he believes are running -- and ruining -- the world."
|Not that delusional.... There are only a small group of people that run the world...we are merely puppets. lol|
|The $ is easy, but when droids can be programmed/controlled to rob a bank, shoot people, and drive away successfully, its the end of $. I'd guess 1-2 25/yr generations from now, anyone agree/disagree?|
