|Leslie Jones is a Ghostbusters star who has faced widespread abuse on the Internet. Now her website is hacked, and her explicit images and personal details are published online.
JustLeslie.com was taken offline a few days ago after intruders reportedly took it over and published pictures of her driver’s license and a passport, as well as explicit images that probably originated from her iCloud account. The intrusion also featured a video of the gorilla Harambe, which resembled many of the racist attacks she has faced in 2016.
The standup comedian didn’t release a statement on the attack, but has been outspoken about online bullying. As a result, Twitter even had to permanently ban Milo Yiannopoulos, a British columnist who had aggressively targeted Leslie Jones. However, Jones also quit Twitter after facing a wave of abusive tweets. It must be said that the comic is not the first female actor to have nude photos posted online: for example, Jennifer Lawrence had her explicit photos stolen from her Apple iCloud account. Overall, about 100 other female celebrities also had nude photos posted two years ago.
Regarding the intense Twitter harassment the standup comedian has faced, many have argued that Twitter failed to do enough to protect her and other users from bullying and threats. Apparently, regular users who are not famous suffer even more than Jones.
In August, Leslie Jones has been active on social media live-tweeting the Olympics, as NBC hired her as a commentator. When black gymnast Gabby Douglas also faced intense online harassment, Leslie Jones supported her, asking followers to support the 20-year-old with the hashtag #LOVE4GABBYUSA.
