|Kickass.mx, a “clone” of a popular KickassTorrents, was withdrawn by the Mexican police. The site operator didn’t expect such a turn of events, but he is not going to give up and will continue to serve torrents from Kickass.cd.
The original KickassTorrents tracker was shut down by the American government 2 months ago, and the website’s alleged operator was arrested in Poland. Once it went offline, numerous mirrors and clones tried to take its place.
KAT.am, a very popular mirror, was swiftly seized and later picked up by scammers. At the same time, the initial service continued to operate from two other domains – kickass.cd and kickass.mx. However, this week the service was targeted again. Without prior notice, kickass.mx was shut down by the registry upon the request of Mexico’s federal police, who were approached by copyright holders and promptly contained the threat. As a result, the local Center for Prevention of Electronic Crimes launched a cyber intelligence operation to find out the source where this crime was committed.
In the meantime, the operator of the Kickass.mx “clone” (which is in fact The Pirate Bay mirror with a KickassTorrents skin) was quite surprised by the domain seizure, because the domain name was registered through EasyDNS. The latter is known for standing up against domain seizures and suspensions made without a proper court order. This is why it was surprising to see it bypassed as the police went directly to the MX domain registry.
So far, Kickass remains available from the Kickass.cd domain. The operator, who is looked for by the Mexican police, promised to create more backup domains, probably without Mexican ties.

Why are they after torrent sites? Instead use it against crimes, rapist, taliban etc.
Cause taking down sites pays well. Those others cost to much to worry about.
it's great that the government will go after small time hackers, yet won't do a single thing about the hundreds of heroin deaths in my area even though they have plenty of time to bust kids with a little bit of weed.
build that wall donnie and make them pay for it.-
They can't beat the cartels, might as well pick on computer geeks.

I suspect torrent sites are linked to 'witchcraft' type of offenses. This mean aiding and abetting, extortion, and blackmail... also contraband charges. These charges maybe not be seen because of a man in the middle attack. The downloader is the person that is hit by the charges because they did not protect themselves from the invisible man in front which does aiding and abetting with torrent files somehow by placing a bid on them as a person downloads it and then a contraband retreval order is made to seize those files through the drug charge. I'm no cop. I just believe there is bull that is hidden from the user.
Witchcraft businesses... reference salem's lot USA. late 1800s.
Every torrent users bad dream. Busting torrents sites has become an extremely hot button topic. Taking down public domain torrent sites makes the federal gov look good, takes a "bite out of crime". The results of taking down a torrent site can be manipulated into showing the public that money spent on government bureaucracies created to do just this, is money well spent. Also, crime rates "decrease" overall, an indirect result of busting a torrent site.
It's effect is minimal at best but looks good on paper. Frankly, torrent websites are an easy target and it wont be long, I am sad to say, before the only place to download torrents will be private, not well known, torrent websites that will pop up, shut down and pop up with another domain addy.
You will need to be in the loop, invited, and know how to follow these sites.
When this ridiculousness slows down, a few years from now, and some other internet target becomes popular, the big public sites might make a comeback. Maybe.
maybe torrent sights will go dark lol...that'll f them
|@12 id like to think thats true. sadly these sites are only open cause of advertisers paying for it. = the more traffic to the site more money. when shit goes private there will be no money in it. also thanks for the article i thought kickass was gone. theres some files you get on kickass that you dont get here thanks anyway.||
