uTorrent developers introduced a new feature for the client: Altruistic Mode is a great thing for users who want to share more than they download. The problem is that once Altruistic Mode is enabled, downloads using the feature may never complete.
Normally, the more people upload the healthier the swarm, and this might be the reason for BitTorrent Inc. to release the new feature to both uTorrent and BitTorrent clients. Altruistic Mode is aimed at people who want to guarantee that they always upload twice they download. For some reason, this is achieved not by uploading more, but by downloading less. As a result, users who enabled Altruistic Mode find out that the torrent they’re downloading might never complete, because the importance of a finished download places second to a healthy swarm. Ironically, if too many people decide to act selflessly and turn the feature on in the same swarm, everyone’s download may never complete.
In any case, it’s quite an interesting feature for the uTorrent and BitTorrent clients and is regarded as an experiment that could be later developed. The developers explain that they may further roll out another feature where a peer starts out in Altruistic Mode and later switches to regular Download Mode. This wouldn’t change the upload ratio much but would help other peers download faster at the beginning, thus allowing peers to get a complete file faster.
So far, the Altruistic Mode is available in uTorrent 3.4.9 and above and BitTorrent 7.9.9 and above. The new feature is disabled by default but can be enabled in the menu Preferences/BitTorrent and then activated for individual torrents.

Give up on uTorrent! It is proprietary software and I would not be surprised to find... your torrents are being tracked! Go with open-source like Deluge, qBittorrent, or Transmission.
Do not be a noob awaiting the day when BitTorrent, Inc. is either acquired by or cuts a deal with CBS Corp, Disney, Fox, NBCUniversal(Comcast), Sony Corp, TimeWarner, or Viacom.
What kinda feature is this? better then worse.
@3 - Even the software you mentioned can be tracked through torrents. It's not the clients that are tracked, it's the torrents themselves so please don't spread false claims around unless you know what you're talking about.

Hold on there DeputyDawg, I'm not talking about ip tracking. I am merely positing that closed-sourced software, eg.,uTorrent, may contain dormant spyware.
I am unsure of BitTorrent, Inc.'s corporate and governmental(eg., FBI, NSA, etc.) affiliation. There is an inherent risk in using and updating closed-sourced software... Thanks to Edward Snowden, we know that the U.S. Government co-opted corporations to spy on citizens and foreigners alike.
I recommend using qBittorrent, it is modern, written in C++, and safe. Download the source-code and inspect it yourself(the more eyes, the better), maybe even learn a little something. I also recommend using a non-logging VPN to stop your ip address from being tracked within torrent swarms, plus many other benefits.

theres already a setting for it its totally screwed up .. i got rid of it was causing to many problems and switched to qbit no issues anymore ....
and yeah i have to.. You do know they click the torrent like you or i do when it comes to collecting ips... they get rid of any trackers on it if there are any, and gather the ips off of dht and peer to peer.... so if your downloading they got ya... it truly is that simple no special anything they can do it using a regular torrent client.....you want privet use a vpn it works on everything torrent related and keeps your real ip off the list... all your ip is at that point is your vpn proxy ..
