|uTorrent developers recently introduced a new feature in the torrent client, “Altruistic Mode”. The feature is built into the latest release of the client and has since been bemusing file-sharers who are already generous. The feature was discussed online as controversial. Only now, BitTorrent creator informed that the feature is aimed at private tracker users who don't want to get into ratio trouble.
Altruistic Mode is an option that allows the downloader to maintain a share ratio of 2:1, i.e. to upload twice the amount they download. However, many enthusiastic file-sharers simply didn’t get the point of it, because those users who are committed to sharing have ratios higher than 2:1 already, while others won’t bother to enable the new feature.
Bram Cohen, the man who invented BitTorrent itself and recently announced Altruistic Mode, explained that it was designed for people trying to maintain a decent ratio on private trackers, where site membership itself could depend on a good ratio. Besides, the developers consider the idea of a feature which downloads eventually but starts out in Altruistic Mode.

I don't use uTorrent. I use Transmission in Linux and qBitorrent in Windows. My current share ratio in Transmission is of 4:1, so I always upload 4 times what I download. I don't need to be more "altruistic" than this. What the torrent trackers should do is to identify who are the leeches and slow down their downloads up to a point where they would get the message: you gotta give back something to the torrent Community or your downloads will take many hours or even days to complete. Transmission actually sends download/upload totals to trackers so since I have an excellent 4:1 share ratio my downloads are super fast (I get 13 Mb per second). I think that people that use torrents should all have at least a 2:1 ratio. Leeches should be punished for their selfish behavior.
The old seed box used to kick out at 10/1 Over 20tb of uploads by me. At 20-40MB/s utorrent and whiny pirates can walk the plank or pucker me brown star.
You either get it or ya dont, sharing is good leeching is bad. You should get what ya give. But they will never figure out how to make a client that works like that.
That's OK but I often find on older torrents there are very few leechers. I get a good DL but there is nobody to UL to. If I were stuck with a DL/UL ratio in theory completion would take a long time.

or might never finish if no one to ul more to than you have for dl.
@Nui If all the people using BitTorrent had 2:1 ratios, who would they be uploading to?

Just use windows 8 or 10.... Turn off your antivirus(don't even need to do that really) and let everyone use the built in back doors. Just as good as seeding if not better. lol
Okay now its for private tracker?? If you want to maintain a good ratio, you better use a old utorrent version and make it for seeding task. i always maintain 20:1 ratio with a old version. Coz Old Is Always GOld :}

and what about stability? versions higher than 2.2.1 are not stable, causing issues...

@ XpoZ , I've seen a few of the list. 2.2.1 FAKE on the list. Too funny. Prolly a hacked version, and I envy them.
|Torrents are growing day by day and its really good to see new features also like if we can download/upload simultaneously on same bandwidth.||
