Amazon Music Unlimited has just been launched to compete with Spotify and Apple Music, as part of Amazon’s push into music streaming. The service will initially only be available in the United States and compete with Spotify there, charging the same $9.99 monthly fee. At the same time, it must be noted that Amazon is trying to beat Spotify on price on certain target markets: for example, Amazon Prime customers can get $2 off their subscription fee.
There is even more interesting discount for owners of the Amazon Echo, smart speakers. They can get $6 off the regular subscription price if they use only their Echo devices to listen to music. This may be the clue to the reason for Amazon making new push into the space. As you may know, the first generation of music streaming was focused on the desktop, the second on mobile devices, and Amazon sees the home as the third target. Here Amazon has an advantage over other music providers, none of which has standalone hardware like the Echo.
While Spotify is also able to integrate with the Echo and Apple Music works through dedicated devices like the Apple TV, Amazon has AI features in its music service, and this may persuade customers to switch. For example, users can ask their Echo speakers or their smartphones to play songs containing lyrics they quote, songs from a specific period, or songs from a particular category. As you can understand, this is far away from the simplistic integration of Spotify with the Echo, and from how Siri can control Apple Music.
Industry experts note that such features are more squarely aimed at Google. The tech giant has just released its own Echo competitor, the Google Home, with similar functionalities, which ties into the Google Play All Access streaming service.
At the same time, Amazon competes with itself in this field: it already has an unlimited streaming product, Amazon Prime Music, which is free for Amazon Prime subscribers. Amazon Prime Music offers “a million songs” and “hundreds of hand-built playlists” and is the default service for the Echo. Apparently, Amazon Music Unlimited advertises more songs. Amazon has a similar strategy in other areas: for example, it also offers two unlimited reading services: the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library, free for Prime subscribers and allowing Kindle owners borrow one book per month for free, and the Kindle Unlimited service for $10 per month, which offers as many books as the user wants.

|Until youtube gets censored or shut down, music will be free. It's just the lack of quality in music that is the issue that most people don't care about anymore. Love your avatar Bethenny!||
