|The UK police arrested Rainier Tamayo, the operator of streaming sites detailed in a UK High Court order obtained by the MPA, for uploading movies to his website. By the way, tracking Tamayo down wasn't really hard – the computer graduate included his own name in his site's URLs.
The MPA obtained a court injunction against several streaming sites, including Rainierland and RainierTamayo, in May 2016. Following the injunction, the ISPs put their blocking measures in place, and Tamayo began receiving complaints from users having difficulty reaching the website. The operator published a Facebook post with recommendations on how to circumvent the ISP blockades.
However, the most recent reports suggest that the operator of Rainierland and RainierTamayo was arrested following a complaint from Australia-based anti-piracy outfit Internet Fraud Watchdog. Apparently, the authorities wanted to send a message, because his arrest was televised on national TV, including him being put into a cell with several other prisoners.
The anti-piracy group confirmed they had been investigating the operator of the pirate websites, who certainly didn’t make himself difficult to identify – the owner of RainierTamayo.com was identified as a local man called Rainier Tamayo.
The police also seized several computers, laptops and routers during the raid, but this loss will be the least of Tamayo’s worries – if found guilty, the site operator could face up to 12 years in prison for copyright infringement. His websites are currently online, but the movies on them cannot be played.
