|Residents of the United Kingdom, who uploaded thousands of movies in torrent networks, lost their appeal, with the court confirming their sentences of more than 4 years each, saying that the punishments are not manifestly excessive.
Three years ago, 5 British men were arrested for their involvement in torrent movie release groups responsible for distributing at least 9,000 copyright infringing movies online. These releases allegedly resulted in 5,000,000 unauthorized views and a million pounds in lost revenue. All the defendants pled guilty and the court handed down sentences adding up to 17 years in prison.
Two of the men who received the toughest sentences, 4y6m and 4y2m, appealed the decision, arguing that a reduced sentence would be appropriate because they didn’t profit from the copyright infringement. Unfortunately, the court didn’t agree, though admitting that the sentences were stiff. So, one of the defendants, who was accused of uploading more than 880 movies, will have to serve his 4 years and 6 months sentence, while another will have to serve 4 years and 2 months for triggering more than 226,000 downloads and aggravating his circumstances by continuing infringement while being on bail. The other two men who didn’t appeal their sentences were jailed for 3 years and 6 months each, and the fifth received a 2-year suspended sentence.
The industry experts point out that due to the distributed nature of BitTorrent networks, many of the videos the defendants released online are still being shared in P2P networks, and perhaps will still be long after the pirates are out of jail.

Ok, so let me get this straight: pirating Michael Jackson's songs can get you 4 years in prison. And KILLING Michael can get you... 4 years in prison. That's what his doctor got for giving him too much of the drug propofol.

I don't see NSA getting shut down remotely accessing peoples computers. I don't see Microsoft getting rid of their spyware. I don't see AVG getting any penalties for their malware, etc, etc. Takes a pirate to catch a pirate... And they become the biggest pirates of them all!
Why not just split up the uploads?
Upload some from one public ISP, more from another and more from a 3rd?
Use VPN and proxies.
Most pirates get busted because they use their own ISP with their own identity attached to it.
That is like showing your ID to the bank teller then robbing the bank! LOL

What I do not understand is how the movie industry is getting away with ripping us off, in the music world you can now find an album online preview the tracks and finally be able to buy the 5 best tracks off a 20 track album with 15 remaining garbage tracks, or a album with all the same tracks but just mixed in a different order that gets released every year.
But in the movie world you get a hyped up trailer showing you all the best parts of the movie, you the go and pay £30 to enter, £20 for food and sweets if your lucky and £15 for drinks so a total of £65, you then watch the film and and thirty minutes of the film was entertaining while the other 60 or 90 minutes was yet again total garbage. Can i get my money back, NO.
They should bring in a law that states if you feel ripped off and have been misguided by a moive's trailer, you will be entitled to a full refund at the cinema, and then maybe the movie industry would take their finger out and start making a lot more good movies, unlike some where it looks like a bunch of people with money or a HDCAM get together and pull the wool over our eyes and then sit back laughing when the Money comes flooding in for a rubbish movie. example This is The End, absolute garbage.
