It seems like Box office is getting real hot when it comes to the count of the hit movie of the week. This time "Shrek Forever After" got its chance and it has been concluded as the No. 1 movie of the weekend for the second time. On the other hand, "Sex and the City 2" couldn’t grasp people more than that green giant did and because of that its on a battle with "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" for being No. 2 as this Disney movie is giving real damn competition to “Sex and the City 2” and held its place at No. 2.
During the Memorial Day holiday, it has raised $55.7 million and got its No. 1 place this week too and with that it has got a domestic total of $145.5 million in US box office.
Regarding the same, DreamWorks Animation marketing head, Anne Globe said, "To be so decisively No. 1 in the face of these other two big movies is pretty thrilling".
Loads of expectations were going on with "Sex and the City 2" that it would make its place at No. 1 but it couldn’t beat Shrek and fell down to NO. 3.
The calculations made till Monday have cleared up the difference and found that “Prince of Persia” has rose up $37.8 million this weekend and got on No. 2 slot while "Sex and the City 2" has risen up $37.1 million. Not a Big difference but its on No. 3 unfortunately.
The first part "Sex and the City" was rather hit during its first 3 days in the year 2008 but "Sex and the City 2" collected just $51.4 million in first 5 days this time.
Warner Bros. Distribution Head, Dan Fellman said, "We obviously siphoned off some of our weekend by going a day early."
As of the expectations, "Prince of Persia" was not on the list to go up and was supposed to go down to No. 3 but surprisingly it has got enough to be on No. 2.
Disney’s Distribution Head, Chuck Viane is happy with the success and said, "Our surprise strength through the weekend and coming in second rather than the predicted third was a nice plus.”
Hollywood.com released a list that shows up the overall calculation of sold tickets for Friday through Monday at U.S. and Canadian theaters. Here it is>>
