|Chinese electronics maker Xiongmai has announced a product recall after the hacking attack that affected much of the worldwide web in the United States and Europe. The root of the DDoS attack was a network of hacked “Internet of Things” devices, including webcams and digital recorders produced by Xiongmai.
Security researchers have accused the company of shipping its devices with basic security flaws, including the inability to set a password on some connections. As a result, such devices were co-opted into the “Mirai” botnet. Now Xiongmai recalls some of its products sold in the United States in order to strengthen password functions. It also sent users a patch for products manufactured before April 2015.
Xiongmai mainly recalled webcam models. The company explained that the main problem was users not changing default passwords and denied the accusations of its products making up the bulk of the botnet. The recent cyber attack alarmed security specialists due to revealing a new type of threat rooted in the proliferation of simple digital devices like webcams, which were harnessed to flood targets with the enormous amount of traffic.
The Mirai malware can be cleared by simply restarting the hacked devices. The problem is that there are so many hacked devices online that a vulnerable camera will likely be reinfected within 5 minutes, unless some protection is put in place.
The author of the code for seizing control of the Internet of Things released the source code to the public a few weeks ago, and other opportunistic attackers were able to enslave their own networks of affected devices.

|Why have a password to access the camera?... Instead, make it a button you have to press to turn the damn thing on! No amount of hacking or malware can get passed that! Hard line the bitches! lol But then NSA won't pay good money for back doors in the software anymore. So much for that idea..|
|The Chinese will stop at nothing to achieve world domination. Aided by the weak Obama and soon to be Hillary administrations, they will be a far greater threat to our safety and security than even the current Mexican invasion and occupation of America.|
With the click of a mouse they could disable our power grid and with long lines for food and water, turn America into a third-world county overnight.
|That is the reason why|
Do now use a hacked version of windows. I used to and somehow my webcam light came on when I was working on something. I put my thumb on it and rebooted the computer. How embarrassing. OR.. maybe it is the security handling of the webcam. They just want to see lonely men sitting in front of their computers.
Couldn't agree more. SHITbama and CLITon sucks.
