Warner Brothers, a movie giant company, is accused of using pirated DRM intellectual property developed by another company.
This is not news that movie companies have started an aggressive approach trying to go after the websites providing access to unauthorized downloads as well as their customers in a desperate effort to fight digital piracy. Recently some of them were introducing DRM technology in order to prevent the use of their copyrighted digital works in the Internet.
In their latest attempt, the producers of "The Hurt Locker" movie began a global-scale attack on file-sharers that have illegally downloaded copies of the movie. Prior to that, an Ohio city ended up with losing its free municipal Wi-Fi after Sony Pictures accused an online visitor in the community of unauthorized downloading a film from a torrent tracker. Moreover, one establishment has even disclosed a new technology of digital fingerprinting aimed at entertainment studios tracking the illegal material in the web.
This time the lawsuit is filed by the Germany-based company Median Patent Verwaltung. It accuses the film and television production group Warner Brothers of pirating Verwaltung’s anti-piracy technology. The company says it has unveiled to Warner Brothers back in 2003 a new form of anti-piracy technology enabling the manufacturer to mark movies with certain codes allowing to trace the pirated copies back to the movie theaters in which they were shown or distributed.
Now the company claims the movie powerhouse to be using this tracking technology for films shown in Europe since 2004, but Warner Brothers has never paid Median Patent Verwaltung for the technology.
Verwaltung said they had disclosed their anti-piracy technology to movie giant 7 years ago under the strict confidentiality and at their request. The company expected to be treated fairly, but instead, Warner Brothers began using their patented technology on a large scale without any permission from Median Patent Verwaltung and without any accounting to them.
Unfortunately, Medien Patent Verwaltung complicated the matters further by mixing up Warner Brothers’ patent with their own one called "Motion Picture and Anti-Piracy Coding" in the lawsuit. Verwaltung has to file the complaint again after correcting the information.

WB will screw any one and everyone they can. It's pathetic!
|Hmmm digital tracking software stolen by Warner Bros.?|
Hmmm it has been used since 2003? Claims of being used for over EIGHT YEARS AND we are supposed to what?
Out of the law suits going to trial and never a mention of this "Digital Tracking" in any of the trials all over the world?
Trials involving Warner Bros. movie3s? Hmmmm...
I am not sating this "tracking" gimick is not there or what ever; but EIGHT YEARS and it is now being heard?
How about this to the P2P'ers, some one write a filter to see if this is true and get back to us?
I;ll hang this one on the wall next to the other one about a company - Japanese that claimed to have an instant tracking and ID software for P2p'ers. On that one if it is/was real P2p'ers would be dropping like flies with law suits; but I haven't seen it yet.
Don't get me wrong; SAN keep up the articles, if it is really out there or fear mongering we DO NEED TO KNOW.
There are allot of very very smart people on both side of this fence P2P'ers vs. MPAA and RIAA and who ever. As soon as one of them comes out with something some brilliant kid in a basement cracks it just because they can and the thrill of a challenge.
