Look who is on top of the box office this time. It’s none other than, the all new flick, "The Karate Kid". The competition is going on with "The A-Team" and it’s getting tuff for "The A-Team" to get ahead of "The Karate Kid" for the No. 1 position.
According to the estimations of Sony Studio, till this Sunday, "The Karate Kid" has collected $56 million and grasped its place at No. 1 leaving "The A-Team" behind it as "The A-Team" was able to collect only $26 million and booked its place at No. 2.
Other than No. 1 and No. 2 spots, the green giant "Shrek Forever After" found to be at No. 3 after being at the top place continuously for the past three wees. This weekend it has collected $15.8 million. The overall collection made by it domestically is $210.1 million and with this figure it has booked its name in the 2010 movies which touched $200 million mark and grasped the fourth place for the year 2010.
"The Karate Kid" is produced with $40 million as its budget and nobody had much expectation about the crowd response and if movie goers would love it much or only few would love to watch it but fortunately, it’s on No. 1 spot now. Head of Distribution of Sony Studio, Rory Bruer who had worked even for 1984 version of "The Karate Kid" as distributor, was much surprised after watching "The Karate Kid" going higher and higher towards success.
According to Bruer, “Those expectations began to rise once the studio realized it had a crowd-pleaser on its hands. It's just an unmitigated grand slam hit. I loved the original 'Karate Kid,' but they took this beloved title, and they made it relevant, fresh and absolutely exciting."
The main role is played by Junior Will Smith, Jaden Smith in "The Karate Kid". Even, the producers are Will Smith and his wifey Jada Pinkett Smith. Seems like the all time superstar father Will Smith (who grasped a massive success with "I Am Legend" & "Hancock") is on competition with son Jaden Smith.
And regarding the same,US Box-office analyst for Hollywood.com, Paul Dergarabedian said, “It's like, 'Who's the biggest star now, dad?' It proves the box-office apple doesn't fall far from the money tree in that household."
The head of distribution for 20th Century Fox, Chris Aronson is quit happy with the weekend collection. He said, “It's good that the industry finally has an up weekend, so it's nice to be a part of that. We're very optimistic that we're now in an upswing in the business and that we're going to play and play as our word of mouth spreads."
According to the estimations of Hollywood.com, till this weekend>>.
1. "The Karate Kid" - $56 million.
2. "The A-Team" - $26 million.
3. "Shrek Forever After" - $15.8 million.

why torrent not out yet??
waiting for it..
Took my son to see it. was worth the cash to see it big screen Now I have to take my daughter cause my son was so pumped over it, and I have to say I'm going to fork it out for a second viewing. Hollywood is not losing money on torrents, their losing it when producers are trying to be political or opinionated, when they keep stories simple and add action with some good old fashioned values guess what, money happens cause most people just want to be entertained and leave the everyday life bullshit behind. Just my though

should be called kung fu kid
Can't Hollywood just for once leave a decent classic alone?? Nowadays there are enough remakes of classics being made. Jackie Chan is a funny guy but there is no way he can top Pat Morita as the teacher. Nor can Jaden Smith top Ralph Macchio. It's all about the $.. Always :S
almost unbelievable , i didn't know will be such a popular movie , thanks for article
THANKZ 4 da in 4.. Gyz
I think "Shrek Forever After" is on the top :)

Why is anyone surprised that this is number one, and by the way this movie was made what 25 years ago..when I was a teenager... now in my 40's . Its time for a younger generation to see it new. Mr Myagi is dead and youngsters wanna see themselves. This is a perfect remake at the perfect time. There is no such thing as a classic that cannot be remade after a significant amount of time has passed. I wanna see somebody remake "hitchcock' movies today... and do a great job at .. That would be awesome.
Yes there was no need to call this film "The Karate Kid". Kung Fu Kid or something else. Leave classics alone already Hollywood. I don't think they will ever stop with their remake massacres. Just wish they would slow down a little. Maybe in another 10 years they will remake the popular hit Avatar.
it must be good as i thought the a team was great and a team is number 2
@ Sirene: WOW you're older than I am and yet no respect for a classic film :( If the younger generation wants to see something similar let them watch Never Back Down. That film has basically the same plot but uses modern effects and features MMA, instead of Karate, so it's more fit for the younger generation. And at least they didn't try to sell it of as the new Karate Kid. Talk about the perfect remake for the perfect time. Please..
looking forward to viewing at the cinema this comming weekend w/ my son, great artical thanks for the update EMU
Should be called "The Korn-row Kid". Or maybe "Will Smith gets his kid into another movie even though he can't act worth a crap". Plus Jackie Chan hasn't made a decent movie since Rush Hour.

Possibly the worst movie in the entire franchise. Has completely lost the originally intended spirit and now just wanders aimlessly much like Kung Fu. Jackie Chan is certainly no Mr. Miagi and better left to comedic films that require his clown style Kung Fu and Jaden Smith is completely unbelievable and more suited for films appearing on Nickolodeon!
I wouldnt watch this film if it was offered in Blue Ray H265 720p quality and for free................GREAT READ THOUGH!
