One of the weighty executives from movie industry, a Chief Operating Officer for Paramount Pictures, voiced an opinion that now it’s cyberlockers who represent the biggest threat for the industry. Hosting unauthorized content is the most preferred method for consumers to enjoy it, while disconnecting file-sharers under a “three-strikes” regime won’t help to identify the real defenders in this case.
It stretches since a while ago that copyright owners mourn over their outdated business models that are completely insufficient in today’s digital world. Meanwhile, the world of P2P steps out, creating more new techniques aimed at distributing material in such a way that they wouldn’t be able to be detected. Fredrick Huntsberry, a Chief Operating Officer for Paramount Pictures, seems to have understood this reality some time ago at the Cinema Expo event hold in Amsterdam a week ago. He told an audience that the new threat to the industry is now cyberlockers, whose users can’t be targeted by “three-strikes” regime.
He admitted that cyberlockers are now the most popular way for Internet users to enjoy unauthorized content. It’s not a surprise for anyone that P2P has always been a constantly developing thing, creating the smartest methods to exchange content with other users. However, it’s not only about getting copyrighted works for free, as rights owners think, but rather about making content available there and when the rights owners can’t or don’t want to, thereby making their works almost inaccessible. That’s why P2P is the only way for Russians to watch the latest season of the most popular series in the country “House M.D.”, because it is not shown on TV.
On the contrary, huge cyberlockers like Rapidshare or MegaUpload allow consumers to host the copyrighted content, thus becoming an intermediary and the responsible side. The content is stored online until being identified by rights owners who should ask the admins of the cyberlockers to remove links. In addition, the law so far has been on the side of hosting services. A German court, for example, ruled this past May that websites like Rapidshare can’t be held responsible for the copyright violation committed by third parties through their service, because it was not the site itself that made copyrighted content publicly available. A US judge handed out the similar decision later.

|1 dollar a cd, dvd, movie, ill pay. thats it 1 dollar.|
its time for every1 in the movie biss to take a drastic pay cut.
especially the actors.
next, thing us file sharers can help to do is get all athletes to get paid less than
60,000 a yr, we fix the movie industry pay outs & stop the greed
and then we fix the sports pay outs, we can better put things in perspective.
