Can you imagine the situation when 4 out of 10 new cars had been thieved right off the dealers' lots? The result would not only affect car producers, dealers and other parties directly connected to the car industry, but rather it would harm the economy as a whole, while there would be no incentive to invent anymore.
Well, that’s about what is happening to the world software industry now – a 43% theft rate last year, 2% up from the previous one, as the market-research company IDC believes. And in the fastest-growing markets throughout the world it is much worse: 80% of pirated software in China, nearly 70% in India, 60% in Mexico, 50% in Brazil. Only these 4 countries hold the commercial value of illegal computer software coming to almost $13 billion in 2009, with the global figure over $51 billion.
Since 60% proceeds from software from all over the world goes to U.S. companies, one can think that the statistics places an onerous drag on the worldwide economy and particularly on American one.
It was not so long ago when the President administration took a historic step forward. It released a cooperative strategic plan aimed at enforcing the copyright, or intellectual property rights. The impact it is intended to have is at least improving coordination between companies to fight the violation more efficiently, as well as pushing federal contractors to only use authorized software. The governments throughout the entire world are expected to follow suit by introducing laws meeting international norms for copyright protection, alongside with funding special enforcement departments and enhancing cross-border cooperation.
Still, the same reports indicate some progress. Actually, IDC revealed that due to years of anti-piracy efforts, the rate of illegal software installed on computers in 2009 reduced in 54 of 111 (almost a half) economies reviewed and increased only in 19 countries. The main problem is that the report only sees incremental progress, while being outstripped by the fast growth of the computer market in the developing countries, having very high rates of software piracy, like India, China or Brazil.
These are the figures to think about, if only they were 100% true. As you might remember, many observers don’t trust the statistics provided by the law firms, as they make the figures seem huge.

Hey sam "ARE YOU FOR OR AGAINST PIRACY"???????????? some of these articles you post, this one indefinitely, would allow all of us extratorrent.com users to feel like you are all for "stopping" internet piracy ignoring the fact you are involved with the distribution of pirated materials by being a part of extratorrent.com. This article is totally bad news for us pirates, i could care less that the presidential administration has taken a huge step against shutting down servers and attempting to decrease the distribution of pirated materials. I think i speak for us all, when i say we want you to post articles defending piracy and how the government and other anti-piracy companies are struggling to put a dent inpiracy let alone to stop it.
I bet when you compare the price of the "pirated" software against the ALLEDGED Piracy of that software; you will find a direct coralation in how many times it is "Pirated".
The more expensive the software the more likely it will be "pirated"...
Have these companies that are whining about their software getting "pirated"?
Explain to me why the "Asian" version of a "POPULAR" OS from microcrap costs around $400-$500 U.S. Dollars verses English version at around $150.00 U.S. Dollars.
Explain why a basic Adobe photo shop costs around $400-$500 U.S. dollars? Same goes for Acrobat?
I can go on.
The reason as my own opinion is people do it not to break the "Law" on purpose; but they can not afford to buy it in the first place.
You take allot of countries that are major Pirates and the average YEARLY SALARY IS AROUND 500-1200.00 U.S. dollars.
Allot of the companies that complain about this "piracy" and the lawyers who make of bogus loss number can not believed. All they have to do is provide hard documentation; which they will not, they have had years to provide it.
Now of course you get the "Pirates" that do it as a business and to make money.
These are the most dangerous types since the "BIG" ones are either connected to organized crime or to a government sanction "Piracy"...
Hey you got North Korea, Iran, and many more country Government cranking out counterfite U.S. Dollars; but we all know software Piracy is a more serious problem and needs to be taken care of first - NOT..
What is REALLY dragging down the world economy of ALL THE COUNTERFITING OF CURRENCY GOING AROUND.
I don't download software illegally
I got viruses from doing it so I don't do it anymore
Internet is like life. There is good and bad.The same towards people...
Anyway...we all download but...it is now at a very high peek since the old times when it was private and not very public.
I agree with everybody except darkangelire because it is not a good reason enough to stop downloding softwares because of virus but it is my own idea you know but ... I hate virus I got one but we are all in an illegal position so...I get a virus...bad for me but that's all..there is good even in viruses because some are ####ing genius to code...anyway
Too much is too much perhaps but I still doing what I am doing all the time...when a game or a movie is worth playing or watching I buy it and it is not a joke!
I respect good coding or movie making but there is big problem of pricing which came along with the introduction of the internet...
How is it possible with so many movies, musics, games to buy it all unless you are millionaire ?
That's why there is much more nowadays people who simply push a button without being afraid...

original softwares and games are already too costly to actually buy them. yesterday i accidently deleted my songs collection and then recovered it by downloading a data recovery software. imagine if there was no internet or pirates , could i really buy it in limited time so that the quality of recover does not get effected or would i even find from where i have to buy or would i really be able to afford it? all i can say is long live pirates!!!!!!!!!!
im a student, and i download all my software illegally, (Accept My win7 OS) due to the fact how am i ment to afford a genuine copy of the programs i need.i work with the entire adobe master collection, windows office, 3D programs, video editing,i need to use certain expenisve programs if i wish to get into the industry. i understand companys have educational learning versions, but they plaster watermarks all over your work( thats no good when im trying to present my work to the class or add it to my portfolio of work) i dont profit from any of my work!, or take out main features of the program, how is anyone ment to learn to get into the industry? if they didnt charge ridiculous prices im sure more people would go out and buy them. like photoshop for instance, every so many months a new version is out, but most of its not new, its just a shinyer version or they move the buttons around, rarely adding anything new to it. windows 7 is just a shinyer version of vista if we cutt the bullSh!t. but also in the companys defense, businesses that are using illegal software and profiting from the use, should be buying there programs, but still the prices are Stupidly high!
At post #1 Acuraice....hmmm you don't speak for me.
