Prince is taking odd approach to his music distribution, avoiding computers and other gadgets and complaining that iTunes won’t pay him an advance for his new album “20Ten.”
Pop star Prince was sharing his strange thoughts on the issue of the Internet recently. During his interview with the British Mirror he announced that he is planning to avoid the Internet as much as possible, even with the release of Prince’s new album “20Ten.” Instead, he is going to distribute its free copies with different newspapers and magazines throughout Europe. As for the Internet, the pop star believes it’s “completely over.” Prince also can’t understand why he should give his new tracks to services like iTunes, which would not pay him an advance for the music, but rather get angry if they cannot get it.
That’s not a big surprise to hear such things from Prince, who is a musician that has been long declaring war on the web. It all began about 4 years ago when he took a decision to close down his own online subscription website, saying at the time that it did its best but can’t do more. Although the website said that it would somehow once start over again, it failed to justify the hopes.
In another year Prince made an attempt to prosecute the biggest BitTorrent tracker website The Pirate Bay, demanding it to filter Prince’s music just as they filtered porn and pedophile content. However, the artist has little success with that.
The most surprising demand Prince made in 2008. He required YouTube to remove the recording of his live performance of a cover version of Radiohead’s “Creep” at the Coachella. After Thom Yorke, Radiohead frontman, failed to view the recording on YouTube for himself, he asked in surprise who blocked it. After knowing it was Prince, he gave him an advice to unblock it, as it was actually Radiohead’s song and they wanted it back
You can how see that Prince is cultivating odd approach to the digital world and an issue of music distribution in it. Moreover, he shifts his sights onto digital gadgets as well. Internet is compared with MTV which, on his opinion, used to be hip one time, but then suddenly became outdated. In addition, the artist says that all digital gadgets are harmful, as they just fill people’s heads with numbers and nothing else.
Isn’t it, well, interesting approach to digital world for a musician who has always prided himself for his love for creativity?

Total delusional fool who has lived in a world of his own creation for so long surrounded by yes people who tell him his every expulsion from his body is a gift from God to the Universe and we should all be honoured if he even farts and lets anyone hear it never mind if he sings

No, you all do fail to realize how big an artist he is.. Its not just his own music, he is a producer who has helped not one, not two but dozens of different artists over the years. He has written songs under more alaises then I have on the web and given them to others to preform.. Also, as a muscian, the man is fluent in just about any instrument you can pick up...
I was a fan of his in the 80's like most.. but I do respect how good he is still... And I can understand his mistrust since unlike most he has been involved with the copyright issues far longer than the internet existed....

Yeah thats what I was saying he is and has been surrounded by people like you for over 20 years and believes that is what the rest of the world thinks
Kind of makes me wonder how artists of today make the kind of money that prince made in the 80's. I have not gone to a concert in years. Is that how they make their money? Concert revenue? I suppose the tickets would have to be 150 bucks a pop or more. Back in the 80's artists had cd revenue and concert revenue. Is there any music stores around anymore? I know best buy has cd's but I never see anyone in the section.

I would never be a yes man..... I would tell him exactly when he goes off the deep end, which as the album cover goes..is... His attitude towards the public in general has always been eccentric. In this area of producing and being true to the artistic rights, he has very good reason not to like the net... you and neither do I, know what he has been thru in this business.. and But as for a musician.. His talents are beyond compare... But Talent alone does not equal music that I might care for...
He most likely take a percentage from all the other "artists" he helped getting their start. I'd rather look at Sheena Easten than this guys butt on an album cover..
never liked prince ....dont even want his music for free lol
The local gas stations will be selling copies of his recordings...so maybe the internet is dead, for some people! Those who share will always be strong!!!!
