There have been a bit of commotion online concerning a new Apple’s patent request. The company is reported to create a new patent intended to stop jailbreaking. Around a month ago, DMCA review put forth the option for someone to jailbreak the phone without violating anti-circumvention legislation (still can be committed only under specific circumstances). It was also ruled by the court that the act of circumvention itself is not an infringement.
The Apple was reported to patent the power to remotely disable jailbroken phones. However, the reports made online by third party services were not purely true. One of them sent readers to the patent application, mentioning a jailbroken phone only by telling whether the one was stolen or not. Apparently, this seems to do nothing about the company’s intention disabling jailbroken iPhones. However, the report discusses what Apple is planning to do with devices that have been stolen and later used by “illegal” users. Meanwhile, the second report also barely touches the topic of Apple trying to patent the option to disable jailbroken phones remotely, as the patent was filed over a year ago. Still, it doesn’t make the idea of the patent uninteresting. The statements of the claim include methods for identifying an illegal user of a device, gathering data related to their operations, and sending an alert warning to a responsible party.
As it has been said above, the patent was filed in the early 2009, so the overview of the prior documents might be interesting in terms of putting this patent into question. For example, a 5-year-old article in Forbes details similar ideas to those described in the claims, with the emphasis given to the point where it says about detecting an illegal user of an “electronic device,” which is obviously not a phone specifically, but rather any device. As for the Forbes article, it was devoted to laptop theft and included the same claims: identifying an IP address of the stolen device, if it is used in unauthorized hands, and creating notifications about it. The part of sending an alert to the responsible party was also fulfilled by informing local law enforcement of a place where the stolen device was located.
What all this leading to is the fact that the prior art to a patent has already been filed previously, which can put the validity of the Apple’s patent in jeopardy.

WOW now a company is demanding that they will control a product YOU PAID FOR WITH YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.
What is pissing apple off is this "jailbreaking" being done to the iPHONES.
Their claim is you are violating anti-circumvention Law - COPYRIGHT, DCMA, etc. BULL...
When I "jailbroke" the phone ( friend was very tired of their cell carrier's games ) it was to be able to use it on another cell phone carrier beside AT&T.
As for apple is a very good reason I WILL NEVER EVER DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN. They are an arrogant company and after a client spends 2-3 times the price (for another similar product) for their product THEN dictate to that client how it will be.
A company is supposed to serve the customer; NO REQUIRE THE CUSTOMER TO SERVE THE COMPANY.
What Apple is trying to do is set s precidence where you DO NOT OWN THE PRODUCT YOU PURCHASED - ONLY A LICENSE TO USE IT..
So a possible future is Apple gets it way and other companies do like wise. You buy that 40,000.00 car you have dreamed about; make the monthly payment; pay insurance; repair it when it breaks down - BUT THE CAR COMPANY WILL TELL YOU WHERE AND WHO YOU CAN ONLY TAKE THAT CAR TOO FOR ANY TYPE OF WORK AND WHERE YOU CAN ONLY BUY PARTS; GAS; ETC. AS WELL.
Think this is a dream? Nope it is already here.
Take Microcrap OS - you pay hundreds of dollars but YOU DO NOT OWN THE OS MICROCRAP DOES. YOU paid this money for only a license to use this OS and Microcrap can terminate that license anytime..
My boss just bought an Ipad; wow jeewhiz wowie.. I asked him what it can do better than my acer aspire netbook? Not much. It is a toy period. You can't change battery, you have to take the whole thing apart ( WAIT ONLY APPLE CAN DO THAT ); you can't play a cd/dvd disk, NO USB PORTS, and more... Heck you can't hook it to a printer.
Couldn't agree with you more, every time they say "That is not what this intended for", it is, and the lies continue. I wonder what would happen if we pulled off a world wide boycott on everything on the web, including the hand held devices, those greedy bastards would be lost without us, as they make it appear, we would be lost without them. Well that is my 2 cents.

Well... AOL lost alot of customers when they created software that acted so much like a virus it took control on your system completely... People were forced to figure out the web for themselves... and thus the creation of P2P... nice...
Someone will replace Apple and Microsoft... (go Google, Linux needs a phone)
I've said this before but hey Apple, we root our Macs all over the world for whatever reason. If that is fine by you then leave the hell well enough alone with the iPhone. Then again Android is kicking your ass, so go right ahead and screw your self some more. LOL.
justmedude - I agree 100 percent. I just bought a "droid" and my APPLE user friend are not happy as to what my "DROID" can do and the cheaper price I paid for it. Some are even considering selling their iPhone and going "DROID"..
I dont like apple but i must admit they have some decent products
I was able to get a 32gb ipod touch with speakers for £120 off ebay which i think is a decent price to pay
The onlt problem with it is apple are too stubbern to let adobe build flash for any of there handheld products which means if i wish to use a website that requires flash i have to leave my laptop on and connect to that with an app like team viewer
It wouldent be so bad if they built in there own flash player but i dought that happening any time soon :(

As most software is already hacked or cracked will it really be too difficult to crack this one considering the money involved? I'm no expert but don't think so.

Well i have a GREAT idear..DON'T Buy There Product
Perhaps next Apple will just RENT their products to us so we never actually own them. Now they want to make their products only EXCLUSIVELY use Apple services.
I've never bought or used an Apple product nor do I intend ever doing so.
SIMPLE .... DON'T BUY ipod, ipad, iphone, imac or ANYTHING from Apple.....
|Forgot the rider, if you buy from Apple, they think THEY OWN YOU .. . . .. .. !||
