The president of the IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) highlighted the alleged losses from piracy and its harming effect on American jobs. Meanwhile, he conveniently left out the fact that the movie industry has seen increasing profits year after year, as well as the information about where all that cash is going.
It’s just another old song of people from the entertainment industry concerned that each pirated movie equals to a lost sale. Therefore the pirates are believed to rob people creating and working on the project of rightful compensation.
The president of the IATSE repeated the same argument, saying that while pirates think they are getting a steal by downloading an unauthorized copy of the movie on the cheap, they are in fact stealing from US workers. He calls such activity a plain and simple theft, and points out that people need to understand the damaging effect it has on the working people employed in the movie and TV industry.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees is the labor union which represents technicians, craftspeople and artisans in the entertainment business, including trade shows, live theater, television production, and motion picture. While its president makes the suggestion that piracy represents lost sales, his argument has been cast into doubt lots of times, even by the government. As far as we all know, the effects of piracy are not as simple as the industry thinks they are. They aren’t just lost sales or revenues, but rather a range of effects, both negative and positive. While the businesses and government really suffer from lost profits and tax revenue, the consumers benefit much from lower costs and increased access.
In addition, the fact that is usually left out (this time as well) is that the music industry has seen increasing profits for many years now. So where did all that new found cash go? Maybe it is not pirates who are doing the robbing, but rather people signing the paychecks of workers?
As for the estimations made by the Hollywood, even the government agreed that it’s crazy to assume that people paying low price for a pirated movie would pay 6 or 10 times more for the original copy. Besides, buying physical DVDs now means only adding more dust to the shelves at home – people prefer digital content that doesn’t take any physical space, and that’s not the pirates’ fault.

again... they dont care, the world could be colapsing around them and they would be complaigning there not making enough money.
these guys keep colecting money and they want it all and they just want more & more, and than they die and someone else gets there money and enjoys it.
Again they keep pulling fake numbers outta their butts and screaming from the roof tops see Pirates are screwing use all.
If movie attendance at theaters are down it is their own fault for demanding you and I pay them approx. TWENTY DOLLARS PER PERSON.
I'll tell my view why?
The economy is in the toilet by greedy and corupt pricks and many 8 million have lost their jobs because of it.
A family of four just going to the "movies" can expect to pay approx. minimum of $100.00..
Gas, pay for parking, MacD's, movie tickets, maybe buy some snacks mostly 5.00 each for drinks, etc.. You get the point.
BUT WHY THE HECK ARE THEY DEMANDING WE SPEND ALL THIS MONEY ON CRAP MOVIES?
When a DVD player sells for around 30-40.00 dollars at walwart?
Movies in the "bargain" DVD box for around 4-5.00 each.
Hell it is way cheaper to buy the player; movies and sit at home watching crap movies for far less money..
Here is a great article the MPAA really doesn't want you to know about:

i completely agree with menahunie she has said it all
in palm springs they have a multiplex theater that is resonably priced at $4 a ticket i say keep that price dont raise it and settle with all the money your going to get your still going to make money no matter what and the place is busy all the time of course condiments will always be expensive some of the movies may take a little longer to get there have a question would you pay $3 to $4 for a streamed new release same time as theater to your house unstead of going to the theater and with no copyright could you amagain the money pouring in dream on right
