The Pirate Bay Re-Re-Selling?

Once again the infamous Swedish torrent tracking and index giant, The Pirate Bay, is looking for new buyers to take over complete control of the site. After the fallout and media fiasco surrounding the proposed sale of the torrent index to Global Gaming Factory X fell through, it appears they still want to sell their exclusively hated-by-Hollywood tracker.
Pirate Bay Up For Re Sale

At times it seems that the controversy swirling in the tides of The Pirate Bay are never ending, and the latest news that a group of four different companies are being invited to bid on the site, further creates tidal waves in these waters.

The Swedish news and business paper, Dagens Industri, is heading out the storm of a story that the four parties will be submitting bids to the website's investor foundation, and it's co-founder the once loud and vocal Peter Sunde.

The four parties who will be placing bids, ironically also consist of Global Gaming Factory X, headed by the infamously absurd Hans Pandeya, whom was the originally planned buyer of the site for $8.75 million USD. It's also still facing bankruptcy judgments so many assume it's highly unlikely GGFX will win the bidding wars.

Many other potential purchasers are heading into the round table melee that is yet to ensue. We also have a company called Inter Alia, which is headed by an Asian firm of marketing by Charlene Randles, whom is slated to appear at the sell off.

We also have a relatively new to the torrent site company, a gambling web site, simply called Gamers Gate, which as far as my research has concluded, is tied in with various gaming download sites, and the infamous Paynova, which also handles gambling site transactions. This company is very difficult to track the roots of, and thus little information is known about them.

The fourth and final party is an unnamed record company, and there are no current details as to what hemisphere this entertainment company hails from. None the less, interesting as The Pirate Bay still accounts for more than half of all online "illegal" music downloads. So maybe they feel they can turn over a profit from this investment, or better, shut down a source of their losses.

Theodore Bergquist, the CEO of Gamers Gate, told the Swedish papers, “We look at many potential deals, and all I can say is that the Pirate Bay is an interesting brand loaded with great potential for dealing with it properly”, and a statement that is indeed very true. Potential is something the site could hold for a company wishing to go "legal".

Many have doubted that the sale would ever go through, with GGFX, but this latest bout of trade-offs for the win, is a further display of Sunde's (whom supposedly doesn't own TPB ;) is desperate to sell and profit from his embroiled in battle web site, while he still can.

Interesting indeed, and none the less controversial. We can't wait to see how this turns out, as always, TPB keeps the world of p2p and torrents in the headlines, which is not always the kind of attention us indexers like to see. The only thing that leaves a bad taste in the community's mouth, is the former blog posts from the TPB trio, which stated that everyone would have an opportunity at "Your Share", meaning the people who use the site, could thus become the shareholders. Where is "Your Share"? Did it ever exist? Or more propaganda to keep you in line with the site so they could sell high?

Sadly I still see no effort is being made to allow the donors of the estimated 3.5 Million dedicated user base of The Pirate Bay, to be able to purchase the site, and keep it running in it's current state. Seems it's all about a "get rich and jump ship while you can" scheme. Peter Sunde, a real pirate indeed. Robbing even those whom supported them through the worst of times, he is now in a time of the most utter importance for his vessel, abandoning ship.

StreetcarProphet avatarIt's laughable. I've got a pair of sneakers in my upstairs closet that're full of holes and missing the entire toe on the right foot, but they're probably a more worthy investment. It doesn't really matter what happens, if they could have fixed it in such a way to keep the user base happy and get John Q. Lawman off their back, they would have done it by now. So.. whoever buys it inherits all the problems, or ditches a huge chuck of the user base that'd make it worth the investment... unless I'm wrong, which I may be, I admit to being only on the fringe of this particular issue.

Z0R4N avatarI never liked TPB, although I was in some way forced to use it's trackers. We'll see how this interesting battle turns out. I just feel sorry that an important site like that can be ruined. Maybe it really is a vessel beyond repair. :o(
Thanks OBS, you are nicely doing your homework on every article. Keep it real and let us know if something new happens.

SnakeyB avatarThanks for another great read obs, TPB is turning in to a soap opera, your always wondering what will happen next and most of the time you don't really care. It was great for its time but it should slowly sail away in to the sunset.
Do I get part of the sale for the times I had to wipe my hard drive from the nasties you'd end up getting from their site from time to time?

No avatarone thing is probaly clear atm is that the two founders probaly wont bring back the site since The Stockholm District Court has taken action against two founder members of The Pirate Bay. Gottfrid Svartholm and Fredrik Neij are now banned from operating the site and will have to pay fines of $71,000 each if they continue. This, despite the fact that they nor the site remain in Sweden

No avataror maby we will see The second potential buyer is a rather more familiar name – the utterly resilient Hans Pandeya.who run away with the site who know there is so manny rumor in sweden atm its hard to keep track off them

Qu137Ch405 avatarInteresting to see Interalia is a rumored buyer. The company is mainly a digital broadcasting and communications firm for industry-generated messaging. They're located out of Canada, which is where Marketing Manager Charlene Randles is based, with satellite offices in the US and UK areas.

I was unaware their Marketing department had such deep Asian ties, as this article suggests, but wouldn't really be too surprised.

We could find out the scoop straight from "the horse's mouth", so to speak, by contacting Charlene firsthand. For anyone feeling bold enough to do so, her email is [email protected] and her office number is (403) 288-2706, Ext. 115.
