BitTorrent Inc. recently announced new applications for uTorrent client. One of them was developed in cooperation with the group hosting the TED conferences. The second one will allow users to find free music. This application is, in fact, a winner of the uTorrent App developer challenge, coded by Steven Viola. The latter has also released a TV application allowing users to subscribe to the shows available on EZTV and download them.
Several months ago torrent App platform was launched by BitTorrent Inc. under their experimental Griffin client, now used by several million users. Earlier this month BitTorrent Inc. announced another big rollout of the Apps platform, now even with integration into the Mainline client, which is expected to be later added to a stable version of uTorrent.
Zulu Music is an excellent example of the application allowing to embed free and legitimate content in uTorrent. Besides, the author of the application has also released similar software which will probably become the one of greater use for BitTorrent users – Zulu TV. It provides the user with quite an easy way to search for the latest TV shows just through the app, not visiting a torrent website. The subscription to shows is accomplished with a single click.
The reason for Zulu TV’s absence in the BitTorrent Inc.’s award perhaps hides in the fact that not all rights owners have allowed to download the content found on Zulu TV for free. Users willing to try out the new app can easily add it to their uTorrent client manually by visiting the developer’s website.
The last interesting app released recently helps host TED conferences, enabling users to look for and download the latest TED talks. TED Media is thrilled to collaborate with BitTorrent Inc. to deliver their ideas via uTorrent client.
