Senator Jim DeMint said that the FCC should be renamed into “Fabricating a Crisis Commission”. He slammed the proposal of Net Neutrality as a “federal takeover”.
Just the other day the FCC succeeded in approving landmark Net Neutrality regulations that are intended to preserve online freedom and openness, but since then at least one senator has called to fight its introduction.
Jim DeMint argues that the Obama Administration has ignored the fact that this Internet takeover will cause legal uncertainty in US economy. The FCC, he said, has simply granted itself an authority to rule how businesses can bring the Internet to consumers in faster and better ways.
The rules in question demand all broadband providers to at least publicly reveal their network traffic management practices. Now Senator DeMint is calling Congress to reverse the decision. He accuses the Obama Administration of dedicating itself to expanding centralized government planning. In result, unelected bureaucrats passed an Internet takeover, though Congress and courts were against. The courts mentioned are perhaps Comcast’s victory over the FCC, where the country’s Court of Appeals ruled that the ISP can manage network traffic as it sees fit.
The FCC tried to sanction broadband provider Comcast for throttling BitTorrent traffic, calling it a “discriminatory and arbitrary practice”, but in respond Comcast challenged the FCC’s ability to regulate the web at all. Finally, the court sided with Comcast.
Now Senator argues that in order to keep the online economy developing, the decision on Net Neutrality must be reversed. He believes, like 2 Republican FCC commissioners that voted against the proposal, that the private sector is able to address any problems in the market. They worry that government intrusion can only interfere with the dazzling business success stories the web has produced.
On the other side, there’s another problem that their opponents rise – in most cases, broadband providers just lack real market competition, and therefore US needs to put regulations in place protecting the “openness” of their online connections, as it can’t always rely on private businesses. So, until such “competition problems” are settled, Senator seems to be only working against consumers he is supposed to protect.

|DeMint is such a hypocrite. In these days and times we need those who truly represent us in Washington to step up and speak out. So many politicians, especially republicans, have sold out the American people with the Patriot Act and now they're are trying to tell us that they are acting in our best interest. PLEASE!!!!!! One percent of the world's population has 99% of the world's wealth and the sellouts in Washington will not stop until they give them that one percent too. Well that is not going to happen. This was a big win for the American people and it is only the beginning. The elitist have been getting away with murder, literally, since 9/11/01 and it is time for us to stop being stuck on stupid and to start fighting back. We need to fight them at every angle and especially when they try to pass their evil machinations off as honest legislation. With giants like Comcast and Verizon cornering the broadband market competition would have been non-existent if net neutrality was not passed into law. Furthermore, the freedom of information over the internet would have been lost and the dumbing down of Americans would continue to skyrocket. I have to give all of those who contacted their senators, congressmen, and congresswomen on this issue big ups and lot's of love. This is one battle that we have won, but we should not forget that we are constantly under attack. With that being said, WE HAVE TO KEEP FIGHTING AND NEVER, EVER GIVE UP FAMILY.||
