The real problem is if you did eat this particular dolphin meat you would be ingesting a sizable quantity of Mercury along with it as dolphin are known to be on the same level of the food chain as us yet in the water 24/7 sucking up all of our microscopic waste and carrying it around with them.
My reference to Mercury pertains to another such town in Japan who lost a whole Generation of their children to severe Mercury poisoning around 15 years ago. the condition is now named after the town but details on how the Mercury entered their systems were not widely known due to governmental white washing of the whole thing.
The Doc also covers this in detail as a future public health issue for the town now in question.
The point is that an unregulated/undisclosed market can pretty much do what it wants.
