Beijing:China on Wednesday congratulated India for its successful Mars mission saying that it was not only a proud achievement for the country and Asia but also a "landmarkprogress" in mankind's exploration of outer space."We have seen the report and congratulate India on the Mars satellite entering the orbit successfully," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying told a media briefing here while replying to a question on the successful sojourn of India's Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) spacecraft 'Mangalyaan'."This is pride of India and Pride of Asia and also is a landmark progress in humankind's exploration of outer space. So we congratulate India on that," she said.Responding to a question on whether China sees any room to work with India on space exploration in future, she said, "China always maintained peaceful development of outer space and carry out cooperation in this regard.""We are willing to work with the world to peacefully develop and explore the outer space and make contribution to the sustainable development and longterm peace of the outer space," Hua said.Though China has been successful in launching manned missions into space as well as unmanned missions to Moon, it has not been successful inlaunching a probe to Mars so far.A Russian spacecraft carrying China's first Mars exploration probe, Yinghuo-1, which was launched in 2011, crashed a year later.Mangalyaan provides a lead to India in this regard, though China which hasan advanced space programme is in the process of constructing a space station which is expected to be ready by 2020.Watched by Prime Minister Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists broke into wild cheers and congratulated each other after the 1,350 kg spacecraft was manoeuvred into its designated place, capping a 666 million km journey that began on November 5 last last year.

i dont see what the big deal is many have gone to the moon now to mars its not like humans can sustain life up their
even if we could non of us will be around long enough to see it

they can collect rocks and samples and study them all they want most of us already know that the universe is a big place and that their are most likely millions of earths out their with life

so congratulations on your mission and thanks for wasting millions of dollars of tax payers money on things we already know

just a thought since most of the people in your country are struggling instead of throwing your money up in space spend that money on making your country better that would be a better achievement that many will benefit

the US has money to throw around india doesn't its working people that pay for your missions
what do you think india of anyone else will achieve by going to mars or the moon?
collect rocks,sand and samples of dirt?
studying our past?
wow we found what possibly could be life in this sand sample and?
this has all been done before
no one benefits from it its all basic knowledge that isn't useful to anyone

btw that money you taxed us could have fed a few starving families
never mind just waste our money on idiots so they can fly millions of miles away to break rocks open

A very proud moment it must have been to follow the footsteps of the Russians, Europeans and Americans doing something that they have already done, and well done on doing it the first time.................Whoa WTF it was deleayed for the launch, it went off course 3 times,they has to make a course correction, no time for reflection(Thats for Peasoup!) well impressive and wondering why it was called MOM and not Automated Universal Non Terrestrial Indian Explorer. Thanks to the Chinese for helping you keep the costs down to that of less than a hollywood blockbuster movie! Whats next, a deep sea exploration sponsered by James Cameron and paid for by Statoil?

You guys are missing the point it isnt that India did something none had never done before it was that they actually mananged to finally do it at all even if it was with a lot of help from Asia....but this goes directly to the core issue with india they always seems to demand and expect credit and exaltation for feats accomplished by just about everyone else making it a relatively mute point...for them it is a big deal it is perhaps a flicker of hope, a candle in the wind, that maybe just maybe they can transcend the cesspool they now call home and destroy an all new environment.

Objectives

The primary objective of the Mars Orbiter Mission is to showcase India's rocket launch systems, spacecraft-building and operations capabilities.[39] Specifically, the primary objective is to develop the technologies required for design, planning, management and operations of an interplanetary mission, comprising the following major tasks:[18]

design and realisation of a Mars orbiter with a capability to perform Earth-bound maneuvres, cruise phase of 300 days, Mars orbit insertion / capture, and on-orbit phase around Mars;
deep-space communication, navigation, mission planning and management;
incorporate autonomous features to handle contingency situations.

The secondary objective is to explore Mars' surface features, morphology, mineralogy and Martian atmosphere using indigenous scientific instruments.[39]

and it was not that costly credit goes to our ISRO team...with 125 crore population it was just Rs.3.66/person...
and india's share in space market is just .34% expected this to 25% by 2020...right now the current space market value is 300 billion dollars.
So it'll help build india's economy and we r 4th in the world to do this also compared US which used Rs.4000 crore for the same japanese,chinese failed...
