It's been almost five years since police announced, with great fanfare and Guy Fawkes mask in hand, the arrest of the "dome Anonymous" in Spain after an alleged DDoS attack on the Central Electoral Board. Tomorrow, , the trial is held in Gijon. The three defendants face heavy fines and a sentence that could exceed five years in prison. Why? Here we review the keys to the first trial against "Anonymous" in Spain:

What or who is Anonymous?
It is difficult to define what is Anonymous. "Anonymous is an idea, not a person," said a user after interviewing one of its members assumptions on CNN a few years ago, and that is one of the key: there is a group known as Anonymous, with a structure and a central hierarchical organization. We are talking about a kind of decentralized network, with many subgroups and in many countries, where there are no leaders or "evidence" to enter.

"You have to remember that it is an organization that does not exist and that by definition is a (dis) organization. Anonymous is nobody and can be anyone. Bridging the gap, it is like an insurgent organization based on cells, we share a brand, Anonymous, but we are independent people, responding to a common ideology and who participates in each particular action in accordance with whether or not coincide with their convictions "(El País interview to a" member "of Anonymous in Spain)

This group (although collective may not be the right word) emerged from 4chan forums and became famous in 2008 when several hackvistas attacked in his name to the Church of Scientology in what became known as Project Chanology. The trigger was a video of Tom Cruise on YouTube inordinately praising their ideology and ensuring that they, Scientology, were the authorities "to improve things" that could rehabilitate criminals and other niceties. That Church attempted to remove the clip and threatened to Gawker, the portal had published, and Anonymous declared war on Scientology in response.

Since then, people and groups on behalf of Anonymous have organized various campaigns. For example, after it became known in 2010 that a company organized DDoS attacks against The Pirate Bay at the request of the music industry, Anonymous (or good, people acting on behalf of Anonymous) knocked the pages of the MPAA and the RIAA in protest. Other hacktivists also launched similar attacks against PayPal and other companies in 2010, stopped service after publication of Wikileaks leaks Snowden.

Among other objectives of this group was also Sony (for denouncing George Hotz), some child pornography sites (which users on behalf of Anonymous agreed to publish the list of suspects who used them), a site of porn revenge and up ISIS terrorists, who declared war after the attack on Charlie Hebdo. They have also helped to spread and give visibility to movements like Occupy Wall Street or the Arab Spring.

Because they broke the law?? And they live in Spain??

And if the Spanish criminal laws are drafted and passed the same way as in the UK, then they are driven to protect the corporations/money men, and not to protect the state or individual as you are made to believe. The UK Serious organized Crime and terrorism acts were mainly drafted with the aim of intimidating killing off activism not for the serious criminals or terrorist.
Even then the laws are written in such a way and very vaguely that a single law can cover many different types on illegal activities, and to be honest 5 years for "forming an illegal association to attack public and corporate web sites." ain't that bad, that's 8-10 years worth in the UK.

But then again guess keyboard warriors would find it tough, unlike their Activist friends who go out into the real world and do real damage and save 20,000 lives, only to end up facing this lot.

"Last Wednesday June 22(2011 just after the anonymous arrests), about 160 cops divided in thirteen different teams, wearing balaclavas and armed with submachine guns, raided the homes of twelve animal rights activists in a coordinated action in different cities all over Spain. They are accused of illegal association, trespassing, harm against the environment (in reference to mink raids), property destruction and revealing secrets (installing hidden cameras or filming and releasing images obtained from them). One of the activists has the additional charge of "disobedience to authority". All of them are criminal charges and the sentences could be several years in jail. He has even called us publicly "ecoterrorists"' tho there isn't such thing in our laws."

Just wondering if there are any updates on your post since it is from 17th May 2016?

Take it as a constructive comment and if you do copy and paste articles from other sources, then post a link to the source.

Anyway has the trail started? Have they been charged and sentenced? and are any of the 3 still on remand in jail or out in bail?

At least some good news, the Spanish 12, well 25 at last count, are having all the proceedings against themselves dismissed.

i probably shouldve said that directly instead of thinking you'd get the point on your own. yeah its usually a good idea if your gonna copy and paste anything - credit the proper source with the article your quoting.

It's not written anywhere that you need to add link to the source, but it's just good to add the source not only to give the credit to the original writer(s) of the article but to help members find more information about the topic
