How to spot fake torrents. (UPDATED)
First if you want to fight a virus you got to know it's origin, Why deliberately upload a corrupt file? in other words a fake? this method is commonly known as "Torrent Poisoning" which means that to intentionally share corrupt data or data with misleading file names using the BitTorrent protocol. This practice of uploading fake torrents is sometimes carried out by anti-infringement organisations as an attempt to prevent the peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing of copyrighted content, and to gather the IP addresses of downloaders, Other info can be found on WiKi.
Now that we know why there are fake torrents on the internet we can go onto taking necessary steps to prevent you from accidentally downloading fake torrents.
There are some ways to spot a fake torrent on the internet:
1: Always download a torrent uploaded from a "Trusted Uploader" here it's a Green Up arrow right next to an uploader name and in other site the skull icon but again not all torrents uploaded by non-trusted uploaders are fake but you have to prioritise your download for the trusted uploaders first and then go for the non-trusted ones if you can't find what you were looking for uploaded by a trusted uploader, or better yet if you are at Extratorrent then wait for a MOD to verify that torrent.
2: Torrent description most of the fake torrents have exactly the same description. And that description is sparse, uninformative, and contains lots of blank lines.
3: File type if it's in .rar .tar or .ACE then it's a big no no because using Winrar you can password protect the file into it, I can agree that some softwares or games uploads needed to be in rar to avoid getting the installation data corrupt but for movies it's already compressed no need to compress it further, or almost always, the file type is .wmv. This is easier to insert malware so avoid downloading movies in rar or wmv format.
4: Fake torrents usually have large seeders and few leechers despite being uploaded a few minutes ago.
5: For movie releases always confirm both the movie release date and torrent release date from IMDB in most cases it is impossible to get a cam rip just before the release date of the movie or after some few days of the release date so Beware that you will be fooled the most here and in some cases they upload Blu-ray rip right after the release of the movie and that is just bullshit you can confirm Blu-ray release date by going here if the Blu-ray.here and for dvd here as most of the fakes are usually the ones playing at theatres.
6: First download the text file into the torrent as it contains the most important info you are looking for if it says to goto this website to get the password etc that is again bullshit don't trust it as in torrent community we do this work for free that's why we have got a bad reputation in the real world, and if it contains uploaders asking you for joining their FB page then you are good to go but I still wouldn't recommend on joining it though for privacy concerns.
7: Avoid using non trusted bittorrent clients such as Torrent101, BitRoll and GetTorrent and always use the trusted ones that have a reputation on internet for example uTorrent, Bittorrent, VUZE etc.
8: Trackers used by fake uploaders is also a way to spot the fake torrent go into torrent details and copy paste the tracker into google if it comes up as tagged fake tracker or anything associated as it being a fake into google then don't download it and if a tracker is legitimate, you will see many Google hits where many torrent sites point to the copy-pasted tracker.
9: Asking you to install certain media players and codecs, Don't install it as it will just cause more trojans and malwares installed on your computer.
10: Torrent media info to obtain this download the movie and stop it on 4 or 5 percent and then open the folder of downloading file right click it and click on media info and if you see Writing Application being marked as Windows Movie Maker and codec ID being marked as WMV3 then it is fake, To use this feature you must have K-Lite Codec Pack installed on your computer.
11. File container as I mentioned above fakes torrents mostly come in WMV format but they rename their file by adding .avi in front of it to fool you that you are downloading avi format movie but you aren't to avoid this use the media info system as mentioned above and see the file format in media info after downloading 4 or 5 percent of the torrent, I recommend on downloading MKV x264, MKV x265, AVI or Divx, and MP4 formats as these are the most commonly used formats to compress the video file.
12. After YIFY closed his operations many fakers started uploading YIFY tagged rips so stay away from that YIFY is gone now and even if you managed to find ones then they are nothing but copy cats.
13. Download torrents from the number one fake free website on the internet ExtraTorrent.
There are some softwares out there that claims to identify a fake torrent for you but you need to spend some bucks on it and I woudn't recommend that because following these steps you won't download a single fake torrent on your computer.
Again if you are downloading a newly released movie then you are most probably to encounter these fake torrents so keep your guard up and follow these steps to avoid downloading a fake torrent.
That's all there is to it Happy Pirating!!

good one for a beginner.
Thanks, and best advice is, if it's to good to be true than it probably is a fake, I always download text files to check before downloading any of the main files, 99.9% of the time they will tell you if it's fake.
Thanks for your effort and contribution SleazyMale it's appreciated.
