I am surprised that there hasn't been more responses, I too have my music, and game software loaded on separate drives as well.tv and movies separated, however I have all episodes of one tv program, married with children, for instance, in one folder so i can just click on one and then they will all play in order. I have also gone with grouping of movies I.E. Mad Max, Lethal Weapon, ect. I also went with grouping of decades, and made a folder with early SNL and later SNL actors as well as grouping for instance carey grant, jack lemmon, walter matthau, tony curtis into one folder. I had not thought about super heroes though, so that will be a good folder. I see a problem of scanning through 1500 movies in alphabetic order on a hard drive through a smart t.v. though.
thanks Selsley for your response
I'm sure most people sort basically the same.
Show name > season #
Artist name > album.
Movies grouped by franchise...
I basically stopped keeping data on hard drives, because after repeated use, plugging and unplugging and transport I was always seemed to face inevitable data corruption and loss. A while back I splurged and bought a 4TB WD MyCloud NAS to store my stuff on.
But it didnt take long to realize 4TB was going to run out pretty quick considering my collection which consists of a large Music Archive of Complete Discographies of bands that began as far back as the early 50' until today, including Rock ACDC, Aerosmith, New Wave The Cranberries, The Dead Kennedy's Classic Rock,Derek & The Dominoes, The Yard Birds, Swing Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, Jazz Art Tatum, John Coltrane and Country Hank Williams, Garth Brooks. There might even be some classic in there.
There is also a large Video Archive from Black White movies of the 30's to the present. Which are divided by Classic Movies 30's to 1999, 2000 - 2010, 2011 - 2016, and further divided by quality HEVC 10 Bit, 1080p, 720p and DVD. There are also TV Series- Ongoing and Completed as well as Documentaries, Rocumentary's, Christian and Bible Based Stories and Children Movies & TV
I am not really into games but i do have some that I keep in case I feel like playing them. All The Need For Speed Games for example and Hoyle Casino and some others. Most programs are easily downloaded if needed but i do keep copies of my Operating System and all programs associated with helping me get back up and runnings in case of a Catastrophic event.
So, when i realized I was going to run out of storage space almost immediately after upgrading. I decided to put together a larger NAS device with 2x 4TB WD red Drives and hence now I have 12TB of Storage on a 4TB WD MyCloud and an 8TB WDMyCloudEXIIUltra. And now with an upgrade to broadband my data transfer speeds and streaming capacity has increased and improved dramaticly.
