Converting H264 MP4 to M4V without visual or sound problems.

Hey.... Just to clarify that I am a Mac user.

Wonder if anyone can guide me in the right direction?
I have been downloading MP4 H264 movies which play fantastic in iTunes but they won't sync to my Apple TV its just say's 'X' was not copied because the video format is not supported by Apple TV! So I choose my movie and click on ADVANCE drop down menu in iTunes and choose CREATE APPLE TV VERSION which does but when I come to play the Apple TV version I get the sound but I have a white screen and this happen on all movies that I have downloaded!
That's not it.... If I put the movie in to HandBrake and try to convert it into a M4V file it converts but this time the Picture is FANTASTIC but the audio is like a slowed down record!! I can't win!!!

Please please someone with this knowledge please help
