How to Format with KillDisk
KillDisk is not simply a tool to format, it will write 0 everywhere on a partition or an entire hard drive (you choose). After its passage, it is virtually impossible to recover data. KillDisk can be used after a big virus type of infection that can return after a normal format (with the Windows CD for example).
How to burn KillDisk on a CD
* Download KillDisk on a PC.
* Unzip (extract) the file boot-cd-iso.zip, you will find a file named BOOT-ISO DSK.iso. You can use Nero, CDBurnerXP, etc.. to burn as an ISO. You can also use IsoBurner.exe found in the archive boot-cd-iso.zip.
* Once burned, it is ready to use.
Using the software KillDisk
The PC will boot from the CD and the screen will appear:
Choose Active @ KillDisk (FREE) and press Enter:
A message warns you that the free version allows for only one password, confirm with Enter:
Select the partition or hard disk format (for my part, I will format VBOXHARDDISK (80h)) and press F10:
Leave the method ''One Pass Zeros" and press F10:
Type ERASE-ALL-DATA (Q for the type A and to = -) and press Enter. The formatting is done (the duration depends on the size of hard drive, the power of the PC, etc.. It may take several hours):
When formatting is complete, a report will appear:
Press Esc twice, and a message asks if you want to leave KillDisk, press Enter:
You can remove the KillDisk CD and put the CD on your operating system (Windows, Linux, etc.). And then restart your PC to install.

just one question,correct me if i am wrong but to ensure no virus or erase unwanted data,I can clean whole of hard drive,but will then need to re install windows and any other programs i need,or is there separate partition for windows??

| Posted: Sat Jul 17, 2010 05:33 Author: If your pC has been set out to have Windows on its own partition you can most certainly get away with only formatting the storage space..
However most PC's are set up with windows on the entire partition (possibly 2 if there is a recovery partition) Windows functions much better if it has its own partition because it has less space to move around enableing the OS to acsess data more redily.
However, softwares are also stored it this partion so to wipe virus spyware worms trojans cookies etc etc etc you must re-install the OS - which has many benifits in its self.
Theres nothing better than a fresh install of windows especially when all softwares can be easily retrieved and updated through ET. But the short answer is yes, if you want to reformat you will loose everything.
Anything you want to keep should be backed up onto external drives etc.
I set my output folder for bittorrent and server transfers to the external.
Everything goes outside my main storage within the PC so nothing is ever on it as such to begin with (only software) but that can also be stored as files in folders on the external awaiting re-install.
Most of the time because my PC is set up the way i want it, I reformat every time the 30 days is up on before windows askes for activation so never even bother with loaders or cracks to activate the OS.
Windows 7 is so fast and easy to install it takes so little time to clean it out each moth after all its work.
Any updated software that has been released to P2P is then installed and Im ready to go again.
This is the way I do it, everyone does things differently,
but I like it this way. | |
