IP Privacy

Hi Folks

I know this has been posted numerous times, but the majority of answers vary.

But I will ask and maybe I will get the answer that I require.

I have been downloading for years but have never taken any precautions and have not heard any thing from ISP provider or worse a Law firm looking to sue for copyright (touchwood).
My current provider is Virgin Media in the UK,(I dont know if they would hand over details to any authorities?)
But with recent articles in newspapers and on-line about File-Sharing/Torrent Downloading, I feel as if I should attempt to protect myself.
I understand that Peer Guardian and Peer Block dont really hide my IP so a better option is needed.
I only work P/Time so money is very tight so I would prefer to spend nothing or very little.
Is a VPN my only option? is there a free option that does not cut off every 20 mins?
what about Seed boxes could some one explain those to me?
Or will I just steal my neighbours connection for downloading Torrents (can I be found out?)

I heard that the free version they offer stops after 20 mins, therefore if I start a download just as I go to bed after 20 mins it will be downloading with my original IP number?

Do you use itshidden?
