Rapper Michael “Eyedea” Larsen died suddenly Sunday morning (October 17), a mere month before his 29th birthday.
The singer/rapper had been a staple in the underground scene for over a decade.
According to reports, his mother, Kathy Averill, found his body early in the morning.
“It is with great pain and sadness that I tell you my son Mikey (Eyedea) has passed away,” Averill wrote on Facebook.
The cause of death for the St. Paul, Minnesota native remains unknown and his mother requested privacy.
"At this time we kindly request your respect and our privacy as we process this devastating loss. On behalf of Mikey's family, close friends and fans, thank you."
Eyedea was a longtime member of the Rhymesayer crew and had won a number of rap battles.
One of his most acclaimed victories included the HBO-televised Blaze Battle in 2000 and Scribble Jam in 1999.
I remember seeing this guy perform numerous times at First Ave in Minneapolis. If you want to great midwest shit, look him up.
