Fox News' Shepard Smith attacks Tom Coburn for blocking 9/11 first responders bill
News Type: Event — Seeded on Wed Dec 22, 2010 5:17 AM EST
Article Source: Salon.com

For the second day in a row now, Fox News' Shepard Smith used his 3 p.m. show to publicly shame specific Republicans for blocking passage of the bill that would fund healthcare for ailing 9/11 first responders. Yesterday, Shep called out a dozen senators who refused to come on his show and explain themselves. Today, Shep singled out Sen. Tom Coburn, a conservative's conservative, who is at this point the last Republican still willing to publicly block the bill from coming to the floor.

Even the so called FOX_REPUBLICAN_VOICE_CHANNEL is starting to see beyond the 'arrogance' .. why don't you wake up as well bruv

So you say 9/11 wasn't a conspiracy... then help the people who risked their lives out FFS

WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange has been named "Man of the Year" by a leading French newspaper, one of the five publications to co-operate with the whistleblowing website on its its latest release of leaked documents.

Le Monde names Assange in a weekly supplement magazine due to appear tomorrow.

Visitors to the newspaper's website voted in favour of Assange, with 56 per cent backing him for the honour, compared to 22 per cent for jailed Chinese dissident and Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo and 6.9 per cent for American Facebook President Mark Zuckerberg.

Time magazine last week pronounced Mr Zuckerberg its "Person of the Year".

All those irrelevant Altoids-taking, bed sore having Willy Lynch's that hate on Obama for being a minority, truly need to keep worrying about their hemorrhoids.

CIA task force to assess WikiLeaks cables
From correspondents in Washington From: AFP December 23, 2010 8:31AM

A CIA taskforce - known by the suitable acronym WTF - is to assess damage done by WikiLeaks' mass release of classified US documents, an official says.

The WikiLeaks Task Force will "examine whether the latest release of WikiLeaks documents might affect the agency's foreign relationships or operations," CIA spokesman George Little said.

Few of the thousands of confidential documents leaked by WikiLeaks were from the CIA, but many were secret communications by high ranking diplomats discussing sensitive questions of world and US affairs.

The taskforce, headed by the CIA's Counterintelligence Centre, is to make an inventory of the leaked cables and will report on the impact of the leaks, particularly regarding the ability to recruit informants, a source who asked not to be named said.

Some of the leaked documents originated on the protected SIPRNET, or Secret Internet Protocol Router Network, which is used to share classified information between different government branches.

The embarrassing saga could lead to a tightening of the rules for sharing, the source said.

"The recent WikiLeaks episode points to the serious need for our government to look closely at whether it might be time for need-to-know to make a comeback."

Bradley Manning, the soldier accused of stealing the information and passing it to WikiLeaks, had access to SIPRNET as an army intelligence analyst.

Leaked cable: Anna Nicole wreaked havoc in Bahamas

By DANICA COTO, Associated Press Danica Coto, Associated Press – Wed Dec 22, 4:16 pm ET
The government fell two months after the last cable was written.

"Not since Category 4 Hurricane Betsy made landfall in 1965 has one woman done as much damage in Nassau," reads a colorful November 2006 document, apparently written by Deputy Chief of Mission D. Brent Hardt. It was released by WikiLeaks and published by the British newspaper The Guardian late Tuesday.

That's fantastic stuff thank God for the (so-called) leaks, since not a single one has even remotely been proven to be correct. Now we find out that Anna Nicole toppled the government in the Bahamas. PMSL, maybe she was really a CIA operative during her Playmate years. Would be a good cover, lots of travel, jewels to pass, and microfiche in her g-string, I also heard she kept polonium 210 in here Playboy pendant for those incorruptible Agents in the Bahamas, or in case Putin gave her a call. Is the British paper the Guardian about the same as the National Enquirer??? Or is it what they wrap the Chips in???

In an interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday night, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange likened the values of his whistle-blowing website to those of the Founding Fathers of the U.S. and said the backlash by the American government is out of embarrassment.

“Our founding values are those of the U.S. revolution,” Assange told interviewer Steve Kroft. “They are those of people like [Thomas] Jefferson and [James] Madison.

The white-haired secret-spiller also maintained the website has played within the rules, saying his organization is comparable to any other publisher and should be protected under the First Amendment.

“We operated just like any U.S. publisher operates … and there has been no precedent that I'm aware of, in the past 50 years, of prosecuting a publisher for espionage,” Assange said. “It is just not done.”

He called the disparity a “flagrant disregard for U.S. tradtions.”

Assange also shared a story from his childhood, back when his mother worked as a political activist who helped scientists gather information about nuclear tests conducted by the British in the Australian outback.

The two were out late one night when authorities stopped them. According to Assange, one official said, “Look, lady, you're out at 2 a.m. in the morning with this child. It could be suggested you're an unfit mother. I suggest you stay out of politics.”

“Which she did, for the next 10 years,” said Assange, “in order to make sure nothing happened to me. That's a very early abuse of power and of secrecy that I saw in my life.”

Kroft spent two days interviewing Assange at his Britain home, where he fighting extradition to Sweden for questioning in two sexual assault cases.

Wikileaks' Julian Assange prepares to fight extradition

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has arrived at a UK court to begin his battle against extradition to Sweden.

He faces allegations of sexual assault against two women, which he denies. Mr Assange is expected to argue Swedish prosecutors had no right to issue a warrant for his arrest because he has not yet been charged with any offences. At the extradition hearing, in London's Belmarsh Magistrates' Court, his lawyers will also challenge the move on human rights grounds.

Mr Assange's legal team, led by Geoffrey Robertson QC, is expected to argue that if their client is forced to return to Sweden he could be extradited to the US, or even Guantanamo Bay, to face separate charges relating to the publication of secret documents by Wikileaks.

Mr Assange was released on bail by a High Court judge just before Christmas after spending nine days in Wandsworth prison. He denies sexually assaulting two female supporters during a visit to Stockholm in August. Mr Assange and his supporters claim the inquiry is politically motivated.

The extradition hearing is expected to last two days.

Wikileaks' Julian Assange prosecution validity queried

Swedish prosecutors did not follow "proper procedure" while investigating rape claims against Julian Assange, a UK extradition hearing was told.

Sven-Erik Alhem, a witness, said it was "quite peculiar" that authorities did not get the Wikileaks founder's version of events before seeking his arrest. Lawyers acting for the prosecutors said repeated attempts were made to persuade him to submit himself to an interview.

Mr Alhem, a former Swedish prosecutor, said he had not met Mr Assange before and was only interested in justice being done. He said Marianne Ny, the Swedish prosecutor in Mr Assange's case, "should have made sure Mr Assange was able to give his version of events in detail". However, when Mr Alhem was asked what he would have done if faced with similar allegations, he said: "If I was in his shoes then I would have gone to Sweden to give my version of events. "It would be very important to me to clear my name given I was innocent."

When asked whether Mr Assange could be at risk of being transferred to the US if extradited, he said: "My understanding is there is not a risk of being extradited to the US but there are exceptions, which I'm not aware of and can't comment on.

More on this will follow... the case continues.
