Distorted sound....

I recently had a stick of RAM go bad and removed it. Since i am down to half the amount of RAM i decided to go from Win7 back to XP for a while.

Any ways.. now some of my movies have distorted sound on the deep, loud sounds. The worst example being Tron Legacy. The scene towards the end when they are flying towards the portal the ship just sounds horribly distorted and farty lol. Hard to explain. I tried 2 rips. One was the twisted 720p Bluray (DTS) and the other a BDrip with (AC3). A few other movies do the same thing on the deeper loud parts (the sample for Inception 2010 720p BRRip x264-HDLiTE for example). I have reinstalled my audio drivers a couple times (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R2.58 2000-XP-2003 (32bits).

I'm stumped .. Any ideas? I watch a lot of movies and i don't remember having any problems like this before. Everything is the same except for the OS (and amount of RAM hehe).

Oh, i use CCCP with pretty much the default settings. But it does the same with VLC or MPC-HC using its own decoders.

Well one with most of HD's rips you can run the sound back to 2 chans I think. They usually have a downmixxing tut added. If you try a burn you can set up your sound the way you want in convertxdvd. I use +25%, if you are just posting on a USB then mess with TV audio settings, I have a setting classified as rips and thats what I play back my movies at.
